Unable to lower AHI

Post by ajamxar » Mon Apr 24, 2017 12:29 pm

Hi All!

I used to have AHI's in the range of 0.5- 1.0 since the past 2 months. I have been on the Respironics Dreamstation since past 3 months.
But this month, I've been travelling, and my AHI's have jumped up to 2+ range. What should I do to bring it back to the usual "less-than 1" AHI levels?
Also, what is the difference between C-flex and A-flex settings? And I see 3 settings for each (1,2 and 3). Currently, its on 3 and C-Flex. Should I tweak them?

Could someone also pls take a look at my SH graphs, and give some insights?
Help would be greatly appreciated!

(imgur seems to have some problem with my laptop, so used some other site to upload. Please bear with me! )

Cheers!

Hi, well in your travels have you been at an extremely different elevation (i.e. Colorado vs Seattle)? I believe some machines adjust auto. but don't know which - others will tell you - but if that's not the problem, have you gained even a little weight along the way (happens to all of us when travelling and can make a surprising difference).

No, not a drastic difference in the locations.
I have not actually gained/lost any weight either...
That's what I'm not able to figure out!

Even at 2 your AHI is pretty good. I think that your slight increase is mostly due to different sleeping conditions as your travel, looking at the breakdown most of your events are CA, but so few as to most likely be caused by shifting around as you sleep.

You are sleeping over 8 hours and your charts look pretty good. At this time I wouldn't make any changes....see if your AHI settles down now that you are done traveling. I have been using my machine for almost 9 years and my average AHI is between 1.5 and 2.5. As long as I feel good...who cares what the numbers show. No one sees them but me.

+1

A change to any of the variables could cause your AHI to rise, your body may adjust after a few days but many here would be more than happy with anything under 4 or 5 so it's not a bad place to be.

I agree.

Ajamxar, unless the slightly higher AHI is making you feel tired during the day or is affecting your sleep, enjoy your travels and don't worry about this.

Thank you for all the replies!
I'm feeling the same (and that's actually pretty good)
So, the good life with CPAP continues!

With such a slight change in your numbers I would think most of it maybe due to the change in your environment. Hotel pillows for example. Not sleeping as deeply because You're not in your own bedroom but somewhere unfamiliar to you. I would monitor your numbers no more then you already are now and wait till you get back home to see if they go back to where they were before.

Wish you safe travels and safe return.
