Have APAP, min/max levels set to same. Questions!

Post by bkafrick » Wed Mar 29, 2017 11:04 am

Hi -

I've used a ResMed S9 Autoset for the last 5 years, but my doctor set the min/max pressure to the same amount (12). Its actually worked fine, and my AHI is less than 3 most nights. So its working just fine.

I'd like to purchase another machine so I dont have to pack this one up for travel every week, but i'm wondering if its really useful to continue buying an Autoset model? Will I kick myself later if I buy say the Airsense 10 Elite over the Airsense 10 Autoset? Its an $80 savings, but if i've never used the auto part of this and my pressures are the same, it seems like a worthwhile save?

I'd appreciate anyone's advice.

Why did your MD set your auto machine to work as a Cpap?

I bought the Autoset based on advice here, but the MD said it wasnt necessary and went with a fixed pressure.

My crystal ball is broken...so I don't know if you will never ever need auto adjusting mode or not.
It can come in handy sometimes for some people though and you never know when it might be needed BUT as long as the AutoSet is still working you would have that option available to you.

Ha, I know, right? I guess I was hoping for someone to say, "listen stupid, its $80, and you'll never know if you need it in the future".

I think that is what Pugsy said in her current gentle manner. At other times she may have said "Listen, stupid..."

For $80, its better to have capacity you never need than to spend $800 because you did not buy the capacity.

Don't listen to me...I bought a fixed pressure machine when I know I do better with auto adjusting. The reason I bought it...too good of a deal to pass up and I was really itching to try out the new ResMed AirCurve model and I hadn't come across a good enough deal money wise on the auto version.
We sometimes do some really weird stuff when it comes to saving a buck or two. I knew what I was getting myself into when I did it..that's okay. I am good with it.

If you didn't have the AutoSet for back up I would say hands down get the auto but you do have it available should you ever need it as long as it still works and if it dies...cross that bridge when/if you come to it.
Heck, some people get total bricks for a travel/back up machine.

Want me to save you some money? Get the Elite and take the spouse out for a fancy steak dinner on the money you saved. There...that was easy.
Next customer please..

So, you eat both steaks and give her your vegetables.

Ok, how about this, not getting the AutoSet would be stupid.
You're doing mostly ok on the fixed pressure, but you might do better if you open the range a bit.
