Hi all,
it's been awhile since I have been on here. I have been on cpap now for five years. I use the machine every night religiously. I struggled with the machine for a long time, because it never made me feel any better, and because of the aerophagia. I'm used to the gas, I have accepted it as a part of my cpap therapy.
My therapy has not really seemed to help. There are times when I will feel good for a few months, but then I go back to feeling tired all day long for 4 or five months. My dr. prescribed me modafinil and and I only needed it when I absolutely had to. I now use it religiously everyday as I can't function without it. I HATE taking meds. HATE it.
My AHI is almost always under 2 and I have the machine on for at least 6.5 hours per night. I believe the biggest issue as to why I am still so tired is because I wake up all the time, but even when I sleep solidly throughout the night, i still don't feel refreshed.
I'm so frustrated with my sleep and tiredness throughout the day. Modafinil doesn't work as well anymore either.
Is there another possible condition that I could be suffering from that I can have my dr. investigate?
Cpap for 5 years and still tired

Of course there is another possible cause for the fatigue and in fact there is a very long list of potential culprits.araris wrote:Is there another possible condition that I could be suffering from that I can have my dr. investigate?

Start with medications and potential side effects...do you take any medications and if so what?
You monitor your AHI...do you use the software or just the information on the LCD screen? I am assuming leaks aren't a potential problem? Verified by software reports???

While I agree with Pugsy totally, you also need to look at you sleep study results. Was it done in a lab? If so, there are other potential reasons for arousals besides obstructive apneas. You will need to investigate non-AHI causes of arousals, such as RERA, or Upper Airway Resistance syndrome. If you are able to use sleepyhead, time is now to print some reports and post them.

I do not take any medication other than modafinil.
Yes, I use sleepyhead. Leaks are not the problem.

What machine are you using? Nothing is showing in your profile.
Maybe post a typical night detailed report from SleepyHead to see if anything stands out that you may be overlooking???
