Heated Hose

Post by angelc » Sun Feb 26, 2017 11:25 am

Hello yall!

I am new to the CPAP world and it has been an interesting 3 weeks. I have learned a lot by searching through the forum and trying to solve my itchy nose problem of which the moisturizing lotion is helping a bit and my nodding off while driving has greatly improved especially with a 50 mile commute each way. This was the reason for my initial inquiry to a sleep doctor, especially with a 4 year old sometimes in the car, I was very worried.

Anyways, I have a heated hose (ClimateLine Air CPAP hose) with coils, yesterday I accidentally stepped on it which bent the coils inside. I re-bent them out. Should I be worried if I broke it, or should it be okay? I "think" it is working but I really just don't know...last night was a very itchy nose night. I'm about to trim nose hairs as someone suggested in this forum but the thought is strange for me.

Also I wish I should have been on here before I went to my DME. They just said here is the machine and here is the mask and cushions. So my other question is, do I have a good machine? It is the Resmed AirSense 10 Elite.

Thank in advance!
Angel

You have a good machine. It is a full efficacy data machine. It doesn't do auto adjusting pressures which are sometimes handy but not everyone needs or even likes auto adjusting.

As far as the hose...if your machine recognizes it when you attach it..most likely the coils are fine but I would be getting a new one just in case as soon as I could.
It's possible to lose the heating ability if the coils get damaged which just makes it a non heated hose...not the end of the world but could allow condensation to happen in the hose or mask which is highly annoying.

Remove the hose from the machine and then put it back on the machine and watch the face of the machine to see if it recognizes the hose by showing the "heated hose enabled" message.
I don't know for sure if it recognizes the hose if the coils are damaged (hence the get a new hose whenever you can) but if it doesn't recognize the hose at all..you know for sure it was damaged.

The humidifier will still crank out the humidity at whatever setting you have chosen even if the hose gets damaged.
You just don't have the warmth to prevent condensation and the customization of the humidity gets a bit compromised but it's not like having the heated hose getting damaged causes the humidifier to not put out moisture.
The humidifier will still do its thing whether the hose is a non heated hose either from damage or simply because it never was a heated hose.

Thanks! I will look into getting a new one just in case.

I'm glad CPAP is working for you, especially given that the safety of a child is at stake.

You mention the itchy nose.

I didn't notice which mask you are using. My solution to the itchy nose was to use a Circadiance Sleepweaver Elan mask. it is a soft cloth mask, that allows me to scratch my nose without removing the mask.
