Mask Leaks

Post by maskuser » Sun Feb 12, 2017 3:57 pm

I am a relatively new Bipap user (4 months) and continue to struggle with mask leaks. My machine is a ResMed AirCurve-10 ST and mask is a Fisher & Paykel Simplus full-face mask, size large. I've tried the surgical lubricant with not much success and also RemZZZ's pads with a little better luck, although only through using 2 pads at a time. Anyone care to share their experiences or alternative ideas? By the way, although I hate strapping up like Darth Vadar each night, must say that my sleep quality has become crazy good compared to before!

Go to padacheek.com for mask liners made for your mask. They are much more substantial than the Remzzzs

Here are some you tube videos...................

Save your money and cut a sock to make the liner. That's what I do and I wear the same mask. Trust me, I am all over in the bed and my mask never leaks with the homemade liner.

What are your bi-level pressures? I have a S9 ST-A running in S/T mode and use the same mask with a medium cushion. I find that trimming my facial hair and cleaning my face before bed helps. I also quickly wash the mask every day or two to get the oils off - not worried about germs really but I find that it helps with the seal. I also carefully adjust the headgear starting from the top straps that go on top of your head and go down until I get a good fit. I like a snug fit but not too tight because that can cause leaks.

If you want to try making your own liners, here is a link to the pattern I used when I was using the simplus mask.
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf

I made my liners from an old, well-used tee shirt. I have also made some from paint rags I got from a hardware store. The rags look like cut up tee shirts.

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

You haven't mentioned your pressures yet.
Have you looked at other masks?
I have more than a dozen, and switch between a few favorites from time to time.
There is no one mask that works for everyone, and some days yesterday's perfect mask is not so great any more. Things like a cold, weight gain or loss, change in facial hair or the phase of the moon can make all the difference in the world.
