Too much air

Post by Harleygirl » Mon Feb 06, 2017 8:57 pm

I'm new to cpap. I'm set at 15 for my air. I think it's too much should I adjust on my own or wait n ask Doc. I feel bloated and the air flow makes my cheeks puff up lol

First, please update your profile with your equipment. It is difficult for anybody to give advice without even knowing what you are using.

FWIW, a family member couldn't stand the 18 pressure they were assigned, so they just reset their machine to 10 for a few days to get used to it, and then increased .5 each day until they reached the pressure the doc actually wanted them at. This was before the auto-machines were available. While 10 isn't fixing your issues, its a start to help you use your machine successfully.

If your mouth is closed when you sleep, your cheeks usually do puff up regardless of your pressure; if your mouth is open, air will go out your mouth instead of your windpipe, which is where it needs to go. My mouth is usually open, so I use a full face mask. When my mouth does happen to close, my cheeks puff up, which wakes me. My pressure range is 8-18; usually runs at 11 or 12. It could have something to do with your pressure, but I don't know how to advise you other than a tip that may help you ... put your tongue up against the roof of your mouth right up by your front teeth so that air goes where it needs to go instead of puffing up your cheeks.

Do you have the provider/clinical manual for your machine?
If not you can find it here.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

First thing to think about in an effort to help with pressure issues at higher pressures or the bloating (search the forum for aerophagia which is what it is commonly called) would be to try using EPR (exhale pressure relief) in an effort to get some relief.
Are you using EPR and if so...what is the setting and if you don't have any idea what I am talking about it is all explained in the manual I just linked to.

The software available....check this out.

SleepyHead works great and is free and relatively easy to use.
