Runny nose/sneezing
Runny nose/sneezing
Does any one have issues with runny nose, constant sneezing and sinus infections from using CPAP? Didnt have any of these issues before I started using CPAP. Doc prescibed some meds, but dont really want to be taking meds so often. Getting sick of this sinus problems.
Re: Runny nose/sneezing
Google "cpap rhinitis" and start reading.
Are you using a humidifier? If not...get one.
If using a humidifier at a low setting...try increasing setting.
If using a humidifier at a high setting...try decreasing the setting.
Humidity needs vary widely and there's no right or wrong. You will just have to figure out what it is that makes your nasal mucosa happy.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.
Re: Runny nose/sneezing
The humidifier is optional, as are the settings, and you may be giving yourself a cold if you're either using it at a high setting (in an environment or climate that's already damp) or using it at all.
Re: Runny nose/sneezing
If you’re using nasal pillows and the air is going in your nose and leaking out your mouth that will do it. Post your equipment and get some software to read you’re SD card, if yours has one.

Re: Runny nose/sneezing
Yes, I am using nasal pillows. I'm pretty sure it's leaking out my mouth some. I use a chin strap, but when I tighten it up more my jaw gets really sore.
Re: Runny nose/sneezing
I went thru exactly what's happen to you when I first started. Tightening the chin strap is ineffective and in my case had severe results. I had a fix bridge in the top; the chin strap pressure killed the nerves, I bite into something an the 3 teeth the bridge was attached to sheared off. I now have a precision partial that I remove at night; leaving 6 teeth missing. I can not use a full face mask, my tounge will dry out which wakes me up. I now not only tape my mouth but also place denture strips between my lips prior to the tape, after which a chinstrap, more to keep the tape from being disturbed then to put pressure on my chin. I've written a detailed procedure before and yesterday I responded to someone who asked what tape is best. Everything is relaxed, I put the cheap Walmart Equate wrinkle cream on my face before taping, makes removable easier. You will never know what's happening with out reading your SD card.

Re: Runny nose/sneezing
Dwood, sorry this may sound dumb. But how do you read the SD card and where is it. I have a respironics machine and I use nasal pillows.
Last night I adjusted the chin strap so it rests more under the chin and that seemed to help cause i am not sneezing every other minute and no runny nose. But my jaw is still a little sore.

Re: Runny nose/sneezing
There are no dumb questions. 1st down load Sleepy Head software its free, after installing S.H in your computer remove the SD Card from your Respironics machine and insert it into your computers SD card slot. Load and follow the software instructions.Dwood, sorry this may sound dumb. But how do you read the SD card and where is it. I have a respironics machine and I use nasal pillows.
