Should a heated tube feel warm.
Should a heated tube feel warm.
Just started with cpap several months ago and working to fine tune things. I have a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset. Once the heating season started I started getting pretty dry nose, so I turned up the humidity. Well then I got rainout so bought RESMEDs heated hose. Well, it's not helping too much and I wonder if its actually working. When the machine it on, should the tube eventually feel warm to the touch? Mine does not feel warm at all. Also I see three brass contacts on the plug in port. Can my hose be tested with a multimeter to se if its working. Tks
Re: Should a heated tube feel warm.
I've not noticed my heated hose feeling warm to the touch. The default setting on auto is 81 degrees and humidity setting 4. Your body temp is around 98.6. So it probably will not feel very warm to touch. Are you running in the auto mode? You can set it to manual and have greater ability to choose humidity levels and tube temps. Re: Should a heated tube feel warm.
no, it shouldn't feel warm to the touch, just warmer than the rest of the room, which is going to be cooler than body temp... and anything cooler than body temp won't feel 'warm'.cdestuck wrote:Just started with cpap several months ago and working to fine tune things. The only difference I could feel was how cold my nose was NOT.
Preventing ice cube nose is enough for me.

Re: Should a heated tube feel warm.
I can feel my PR system one Heated tube get warm when the room is cold and the humidifier setting is 4 or higher.
Remember it's only going to add heat as is needs based on temp and machine software.
If your room is cold you should be able to turn it to max and feel it heating up if it's working.
I have a cheap IR temp gun that I used to verify it was working as well as my hands.

Re: Should a heated tube feel warm.
Thanks for the input guys. Will go over my settings and run it on manual for a couple of nights to see if it helps.
Re: Should a heated tube feel warm.
I have a Climateline Air heated tube with my Airsense 10 with all settings on Auto. My room temp at night is 19 deg Celcius. My tube feels slightly warm to the touch when running.

I never thought to use my IR "penlight"!
Got to try that tonight.

Winter and the thermostat is set to 15c at night and my bed is beside the window. The tubing definitely feels warm - like cuddling a snake.

Not necessarily, climate control algorithms prioritize humidity over hose temperature, look at the water used in your tank in the morning to see if the climate control is working.
Why run a fully automated climate control system with heated hose on manual?
