You ain't kidding. Insurance/Medical Billing is corrupt as hell.

On Jan 1, my wife was 4 months in to a 7 month rental (after which she owns the machine). We were led to believe that our insurance plan required a rental to cover a new CPAP user to determine compliance - I don't know if this is true or not - too late now.

Total term: $275 x 7 = $1925
She/insurance had paid: $1100
Balance left: $825

My employer changed insurance providers, which put this DME out of network. I called to arrange to self-pay the balance of $825. The friendly guy on the other said that I'd get a 25% discount for self-paying. Cool right!? Then he proceeded to calculate my cost:

($275 x 7) x (1-0.25) = $1443.75

WHAT!?!? We only had 3 payments left.

Since our insurance provider changed, he said they had to start a new contract. Isn't that nice?

I bought her a new, better model online for ~$875

Lot's to say on the industry overall - not sure I want to get wrapped up in it today though. We're stuck with it because fixing it would crash the economy.

Private insurance is ridiculous--no way there is no baksheesh!
I figured out how much my DME collected for my Airsense 10 Autoset for Her,
and the 13 month Medicare contracted amount is darn close to the lump sum I would have paid at our hosts.
My pillows are about the same as online, but filters-- OMG, Medicare allows a very good profit.
I get the hypoallergenic, as they get paid the same either way.
