There's a sucker born every minute... A somewhat OT venting

Post by JimW159 » Mon Dec 26, 2016 4:57 pm

While in a hotel over Christmas I went online to check email. An ad popped up that got my attention: it showed a man in bed wearing a FFM with an unidentifiable CPAP machine. The headline offered a proven solution to snoring and, by inference, sleep apnea. Curious, I read further to find they were selling a chinstrap - not an ordinary chinstrap, mind you, but one with what I would call magic bean characteristics. I found I could solve the problems that consume so much of my thoughts and time (true, too, for many of us here as well, I am certain) for a mere $119.97
Needless to say, I did not bite on the "MySnoringSolutions" hook. Why do some internet marketers persist in their belief that we are all stupid and gullible. Don't these people know that every CPAP user knows what a chinstrap is and how much it should cost? OK, vent over - have a great holiday and safe and sane new year.

I expect that's the case - I must have been asleep before.

You can buy that chinstrap on eBay for $2 (shipped from China).

I suspect that they've gotten numerous "suckers" to bite on the bait........so they keep marketing it. Some of the gullible may be some that snore and others may be the bed partners of those who do ( getting them for a "gift" ). They may be those who are not about to use some of these machines and masks like we do and are basically in denial.
Same reasons we have seen so many "barely used" or "never used" machines for sale from various sources.

You have a great holiday season, too.

As for A Sucker Born Every Minute, That's not been the case for a long time, they breed much faster than that, and Liberal Schooling, seems to have completely sped up the gestation rate. Jim

Hehehe - yea, I was one of those suckers for long enough sticking plasters to my nose every night, sometimes twice a night.
I think even they manufacture only claims a 50% chance of reducing AHI by 50%... hey ho, at least I got there in the end without spending (I should say wasting) too many $$$!

Is there anyone out there selling this equipment that isn't a con artist? The DME at my sleep center tried to sell me my BiPAP for $7000. I bought it elsewhere for $1600. I don't trust anything the sleep center tells me now.

Why do some internet marketers persist in their belief that we are all stupid and gullible. Don't these people know that every CPAP user knows what a chinstrap is and how much it should cost?
The operative term here is "CPAP user". Too many people are desperate for an easy fix that doesn't require CPAP. They'll
Try anything else before CPAp and they don't know any better. I once saw someone claim
That her apnea was treated by blowing a fan on her face all night.

Denial causes people to be ripe for suckerism, and we all know it doesn't stop at the threshold of the DMEs lair, either. Pay a fortune to buy a brick and an ill-fitting mask.
