No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
Hi !
First of all, apologies for a silly doubt. I took a sleep study last week, as I am very sleepy during the daytime from times immemorial. The study showed no OSA, but snore rates of 500/hour. My mom also says that when I sleep, she hears me gasping and breathless (I remember zilch)
The main issue here is that I am sleepy all the time, and yawn incessantly. I took the Philips SystemOne machine for a week for trial, and it showed an AHI of 4.0 on an average.
Could anyone tell the future course of action? Should I go ahead and get the machine?
I can share the results, if someone is willing to share more insights!
Cheers!

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
get a copy of your sleep study and post it here,OSA is only one of the sleep issues. There are other types of "sleep disordered breathing" all of which are treat by varies versions of cpap machines.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
Snores can be highly disruptive to sleep.
Snores are one of the things that the machine will try to kill with an increase in pressure.
Do you still have the machine in your possession?
Where did you get the AHI of 4.0 number?...off the machine or software or the lame DreamMapper thing?
Did you notice feeling any better or sleeping any better while using the machine?
One week isn't a really good yardstick to use though and we don't know if the pressure was doing much to fight the snores are not because snores aren't included in the AHI.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
I felt a little better some days, some days not.. I just tried it for about 10 days so far, that too with different masks.
How do I add images to the reply, so that I can post the sleep data?

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
Go to the User Control Panel and from there you can add a photo or details about your machine. Hope this helps.

How to add images of your reports using imgur
https://sleep.tnet.com/reference/tips/imgur
How to organize the graphs...there are 3 pages be sure to read all 3 pages
https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize
we don't need or want every single graph SH produces
For some examples of what we like to see

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
I meant do you still have the trial machine in or possession or had you turned it back in.
Mainly I was thinking about the SD card and the data but if you have SleepyHead data already then that's great.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
You included the pie chart and calendar...which aren't needed.
And omitted the AHI bar graph and each category index...which is needed. Look at the examples again.
So that we don't have to click on a link to see your image (sometimes it takes forever to load) do this.
Sign in to your imgur account
select the image you wish to share and click on it
On the right side there is a box of addresses (see image below)
and below that box of addresses you will see the various thumbnail choices...click on "large thumbnail".
Then copy the very last/bottom line in that box of addresses and paste it into the body of your text here.
Use the preview button to see if it shows up
Once you hit the submit button the image should show up along with your text and the image will be clickable and if we need to enlarge it we can click on it but often the large thumbnail size is sufficient.
Oh...if your report was my report...I would be getting myself a machine.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
An important add-on is that I was asleep for only about 4 hours without the CPAP machine on the test day. From that, a lot of time was awake, as I take time to sleep.
After that, they hooked me onto the CPAP machine and continued the test.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
Snores are signs of the airway trying to collapse. They don't always continue with the collapsing process to the point of earning some sort of apnea flag though. Maybe not quite enough air flow reduction or maybe they don't last long enough. There certain criteria that needs to be met (a minimum % of flow reduction and at least a 10 second duration minimum) and maybe you were close but didn't quite make it.
Also since you didn't get much sleep during the diagnostic sleep study (without cpap) maybe you just didn't have much of anything except the snoring.
Your reports show a machine wanting to fight to keep the airway open (the various variations in the pressure).
If it were my report I would be planning on getting a machine.

Re: No OSA but prescribed a CPAP machine
That is the normal process of a sleep study, the first part is to get a baseline, the second is to see if treatment makes a different.
