"Ailments" Disappear w/CPAP Therapy

Post by lwieland11 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 6:43 am

I would like to know if anyone noticed that other health-related conditions improved or even disappeared once CPAP therapy started working.

I have a number of things especially allergy/sensitivity to certain foods and substances - gluten, lactose, nickel, dander, etc. - that seemed to appear at menopause but also at the same time my CPAP therapy was not working due to equipment problems, eczema under the nose, etc. Just wondering if these things might go away once I get the CPAP therapy going again.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

While many 'conditions' or health problems do seem to improve with Cpap (more oxygen helps many systems) whether or not specific ones and/or allergies will improve for you is impossible to predict and possibly unlikely. You could talk to your doctor, but are probably just as well off to wait and see... don't imagine that all is well within a few weeks, if only because you don't want to ignore and/or stop treating the problems tie you're sure they're better, that you're not just imagining wellness, but if things do get better long term, that's another plus of using Cpap! Everyone's different, but some who find that e.g. hair loss slows, or their sex life if better, may still not be free of allergies or other problems.

Heck yea! My diabetes almost disappeared and my blood pressure came back to normal. I also lost a lot weight. I also don't get as many colds as I used to ... maybe I had a couple in the last 6 years. As Julie said it takes time for your body to adapt to getting good sleep and repairing and damage.

My irregular heartbeat cleared and I have noticed I have less problems with my asthma. Last winter was the first time in several years I didn't have a bronchitis attack. I started treatment in May of last year.

My memory and concentration improved enough for my boss to comment on it.
My temper has improved as well, and I do not start arguments as much as I once did.
Physically, I have gained tons of strength and stamina.

i get less headaches - arguably a direct cause and effect. i get sick less often - maybe a coincidence but at least it's a positive one.

Not food allergy/sensitivity, but other air born allergies are definitely reduced by breathing filtered humidified air.

My skin got nicer for a while but after 7 years and age has caught up with that. Less colds and less severe ones and quicker healing.

Unlike the others, a lot of things worsened for me. I ended up on insulin and lost some of my hearing in one ear. Are these directly attributed to cpap? Probably not.

Not needing two naps a day is the marker for me that is definitely attributable to cpap. I take maybe one nap a week now, although I will still get a bit tired in the afternoon (mostly due to not enough sleep yet due to restless legs). I also stopped having to get up 4-5 times a night for a potty break AND the morning headache stopped.

I'm still kicking, but I have to pick and chose who to kick now. It has failed to rebuild my failed heart, but there again I don't blame getting old, or sleep apnea for all my ailments. I'm sure without using XPAP I wouldn't have made it this far. Jim

For me it has been quite dramatic:

Acid Reflux - Gone
Blood Pressure - Normal now and off meds
Stamina - No afternoon naps and a lot more active.
Mental acuity - Much improved
Sexual function - Improved
Mood - Much improved

My only regret is that I knew I had apnoea at least 10 years ago and it took me until this year to do something about it.
