Mask suddenly noisy and erratic

Post by Morningglory » Mon Nov 14, 2016 2:09 am

I use a Simplus FFM with a comfort cover, and usually it's a very quiet setup.

For nearly a week now I've been having trouble with the mask being noisy (not the machine, which I can cover up) but the mask, which sounds like the air is rushing in/out very loudly. It's also being erratic with the air is puts out, sending sudden huge bursts of air along with the regular, more measured ones. That is not typical.

I've cleaaned everything thoroughly. What could it be at this point?

Are you sure the hose ends have been refitted back together properly? Sometimes the slightest change or lack of smooth connection can make a big difference.

Thanks! Yes, I've disconnected and reconnected the hose several times.

Check that all the parts are present!

You mention Simplus but your profile shows Quattro Air...

Have you tried using a mask liner? Karen at Padacheek makes some very nice liners for your mask. If you want to try making one, you can use just about any soft material. I made mine out of an old, well-used tee shirt. I also made some out of paint rags I purchased at a home improvement store. If you want to try making your own, the pattern at this web site will work for small and medium sized full face masks: http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotton-mask-liner.pdf. I used this pattern when I was using the simplus mask.

How old is the cushion?

And double, triple, or quadruple check that everything went back together correctly and that you have the headgear straps adjusted correctly.

I have been using an F&P Simplus for 8 months. Twice during that period the mask has become noisy and it is the connection between the cushion and the frame. I never have figured out exactly what the problem is but it goes away if I detach the cushion an reattach. My current cushion is only a couple of weeks old, maybe its time to replace the headgear as well.
