Deeper maintenance question
Deeper maintenance question
I have been using my REMstar Auto 560P with heated hose and humidifier for nearly 4 years and a relative who also uses this one said there is a different manual that shows how quickly it snaps apart por cleaning of fan blades and passage ways and whatever else may need a deep clean. Although I have the downloaded manual, there is no mention of this and nor have I seen anyone mention it in a post anywhere. Would someone please fill me in on the good practice issues here. Thanks, in advance!

Re: Deeper maintenance question
Clean your house, change your filters in the XPAP when needed, no need to take it apart unless you drop it in the toilet, then I'd go for a new one. Basically that's what's needed. Change out hose and mask or clean as needed, it's up to you they are your germs, we live with them 21/7. Jim

Re: Deeper maintenance question
I know of no leaked service manual for the 560. I do have one for the 50 series though, which is similar but not identical.cbssys wrote:I have been using my REMstar Auto 560P with heated hose and humidifier for nearly 4 years and a relative who also uses this one said there is a different manual that shows how quickly it snaps apart por cleaning of fan blades and passage ways and whatever else may need a deep clean. nothing "snaps apart" though.

I spend 3 hours a day in my bubble, it's germ free, I run my No-Clean inside it. Is there any special reason that you think that you CPAP is "dirty?"cbssys wrote:I have been using my REMstar Auto 560P with heated hose and humidifier for nearly 4 years and a relative who also uses this one said there is a different manual that shows how quickly it snaps apart por cleaning of fan blades and passage ways and whatever else may need a deep clean. Re: Deeper maintenance question
He didn't say that.. he'a concerned about mold because of a bit of moisture in the hose.
Re: Deeper maintenance question
Jim if I were to tear apart a CPAP machine I would make sure that I had a back up just in-case of damage, getting a new one might be a good option because they seem to work well for 5 + yrs and eventually they start to wear out. Changing filters often could help build ups internally of dust and grime.
Re: Deeper maintenance question
actually, yes. Ever taken anything apart that had a fan blade spinning at a pretty fast rate 6 hours per day 365/year for a year or more? Mine is nearly 4 years old and I'm sure if cleaned, the fan blades will be caked with all manner of dirt, germs, and probably other junk too. The passageways for the air moving will be the same. I will post what I find!

Re: Deeper maintenance question
This reminds me of the scare tactic commercials put on late at night by a certain snake oil generator.
Obviously, these slime balls will exaggerate perception of risk in order to $ell you a useless device.
Normal cleaning and changing of replaceable parts will reduce your risk to almost zero.
Any attempt to make you paranoid is cruel and uncalled for.

Re: Deeper maintenance question
sure, absolutely, if one were dumb enough to run a machine without the air filter for four years. in that unlikely event, it would probably look like the inside of the average computer, with clogged heat sink fins ... oh, wait, it doesn't have those, nvm...cbssys wrote:actually, yes. I *have* taken apart cpaps that have been in use for extended periods.
they were not caked with "all manner of dirt germs and other junk".
however, do report back.

Re: Deeper maintenance question
You really seem to have been misled by someone... none of us have any problem as long as we rinse our filters when needed (? monthly) and replace eventually (every few months or less if you choose). Seriously, badly misled.
Re: Deeper maintenance question
Did that fan have a enclosed housing that took in only double filtered, filtered cleaner than your lungs get all day? Answer No! A slow fan with oil collects dirt, a faster moving squirrel cage blower, the buildup would be much less, but it's filtered so the dirt is removed before the fan. Jimcbssys wrote:actually, yes. Re: Deeper maintenance question
Remove the machines filter, take the tube to your mouth and blow really hard for at least 3 hours a week. She will be like new in a month or so. Turning off the auto start will make it easier on yourself.cbssys wrote:actually, yes.
