CPAP machine with highest humidity output

Post by menlodoc » Sun Nov 13, 2016 4:42 pm

Can those of you who have tried various CPAP machines provide feedback (ranking) as to which machines provide highest humidity (to help mitigate dryness from oracle mask). As with computers, are there any custom manufacturers of CPAP machines (cost is no object) that could build/modify a machine so that humidity is adequate?

Thanks

I've had Respironics, Resmed and F&P machines and I have to say that for high humidity that the F&P machines (I've had the 700 and Icon) seem to provide the best humidification. High humidification settings on the newer machines with the smaller water chambers can result in the tank running dry overnight. For example tank capacity on the Respironics Dreamweaver just 325ml, F&Ps Icon 420ml.

Might I suggest that you also consider the stand alone F&P HC150 humidifier chamber.

You could connected as many of these in line (back to back) as you wish, and each one has ambient temperature tracking

You'd be much smarter to work at finding a better mask...

I have used both the ResMed and Respironics brands. I prefer maximum humidity...always have.
I have found that with the addition of the heated hose with either brand that I can get maximum humidity and set the hose air temp separately.

Respironics has the Classic mode (which is like we used to have before humidity sensors were in the machines) where the more heat applied the more moisture gets cranked out but condensation was a real risk without the heated hose.
Respironics with the heated hose and maximum humidity setting is putting out around 90% per their literature.
I think ResMed probably will do about the same.
We have one forum member who uses the Oracle and has elected to add a second humidifier to get more moisture.
So he has the one with his cpap (I think he uses Respironics) and then he has the F & P stand alone humidifier (HC 150) after the cpap humidifier.
The down side to this is you lose the integrated heated hose and condensation is a risk but there are stand alone heated hoses that can be used in that situation (like the Hybernite).

Cost to solve this problem should run less than $300. No special mods to the other equipment will be needed.
You'll need a F-P HC150 external humidifier and
a Hybernite heated tube.

There was a similar chain last week. I'll repeat what was said there. The maximum amount of humidity possible is limited by the moisture the hose can hold, not what the machine can put out. Note that many of the middle and higher end machines restrict the humidity output to the holding capacity of the hose to prevent rainout (you want that feature). Thus you should try one or more of the following:

1) Use a heated hose.
2) Raise the temperature in the room.

The highest humidity you can have is 100%, it's called rainout and is usually something to avoid.

The amount of water vapor. you can put in air is dependent on temp of the air. Jim

It comes down to how hot of air can you stand to breath, I like cool, I no longer use a HH period, and I sleep at 68 degrees year around.
