Anyone use a hose cozy for ClimatelineAir tubing?

Post by sleepychar » Mon Oct 24, 2016 5:50 pm

I want to get a hose cozy for my Climateline Air tubing to protect it from my cats' claws. I got a new hose today because my cat put a little hole in my old hose thus creating an air leak in the hose. I found one at cpap.com but when I talked to the sales rep there he told me that hose covers are not really recommended for the Climateline Air tubing because the tubing is heated. Has anyone put a hose cover on their Climateline Air tubing and, if so, have you experienced any problems as a result? Here is the one I am looking at:

It is item no. 33963 at cpap.com.

Thank you.

it doesn't matter, there's a thermostat in the hose, all putting a cozy on it will do is cut down on how much power it uses to heat it to your desired temperature.

Thank you, palerider. I'm going to go ahead and place an order for the hose cozy now then. I can't bear to keep the kitties out of the room with me at night so I think this will be a solution ...

For the purpose of warming the air...the hose cozy isn't needed when a heated hose is used.
That said...just because it isn't "needed" doesn't mean it can't be used for whatever reason a person wants to use it.

I actually own this one...and have used it often.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -wrap.html
It is rather "thin" and may not offer as much protection from kitty claws.

I also own and have used one of our forum members knitted hose cozy on my ClimateLine hose...plus I got one for the short hose to the mask as well. It is quite dense but not heavy and would offer lots of protection from kitty claws.

A hose cozy will just help the hose air stay the pre-selected hose air temp without using as much electricity when used with a the ResMed heated hose.

Now there is a stand alone heated hose that they specifically say don't use a hose cozy but that's because it doesn't have a hose air temperature control and it will get too warm...I have one of those hoses too (got it long time ago before I got a machine that had a heated hose option) and I found out why they said don't cover the hose..man that sucker got hot. Talk about being in a sauna.

So you can use a hose cozy with a Climateline heated hose. Now it may not be needed to maintain hose air temp but that doesn't mean it can't be used for some other reason.

Since Resmed makes a hose cover, which they claim is OK for the Climateline,
the only reason they do not recommend you use another cozy is strictly marketing BS.
Use your own judgement.

I use one mainly because the fabric being dragged across my skin or the side of the bed (when I turn in my sleep) is a lot less bothersome with a cover than without. The ribbed tubing rubbing against the side of our wood bed makes a lot of noise.

As do mine. Fortunately none of my kitties have ever paid any interest to any of the cpap equipment.
Only problem I ever had was a nasal pillow ended up on the floor (it was drying on the counter after being washed) and the dog found it and thought it was a new chew toy. Now maybe the kitty batted it onto the floor...I don't know...it could have been dislodged by me just as easily so I can't say for sure the kitty was the guilty party. I didn't witness it...only found the chewed remains later.

I once had a little covered basket for washing small items in the dishwasher.
They used to be sold in baby departments. (Munchkin makes them)
If it will hold nipples, nasal pillows would not be a stretch.
Even without a dishwasher, it would be good to keep them safe while drying.

I don't know if mets fan is still around, but he made some very nice, hand knitted hose cozies. I think a cat would have more difficulty getting his teeth or claws through one of them. I have one on my climatline hose. I haven't started using heat yet this year, but I will as soon it gets cold enough to start using the furnace.
