TSA and CPAP
TSA and CPAP
For the first time in 2+ years of flying with my CPAP I was asked to take the two halves of my S9 out of its bag for the x-ray. When asked the TSA guy said it was because it might contain liquids. Anyone else encountered this obvious BS. Hasn't happened since...

Re: TSA and CPAP
I've been told that it was treated the same as a computer; it had to come out of the case. Also, the sign in the San Juan (PR) airport specifically mentions CPAP machines as having to come out of the suitcase for the scan!englandsf wrote:For the first time in 2+ years of flying with my CPAP I was asked to take the two halves of my S9 out of its bag for the x-ray. Re: TSA and CPAP
Last (3) times I traveled no one even looked at it. YMMV.

rules change all the time with security theatre.
It is to keep you from getting bored (or maybe them or maybe you get one of those who enjoy power tripping).

Liquids in the humidifier?
Where could they have gotten such a notion?

The TSA rules are pretty straight forward.

Re: TSA and CPAP
Maby they meant liquids in the carry case. Like a little bottle of distilled water?

Re: TSA and CPAP
From tsa:
"Am I allowed to carry my CPAP machine onboard the plane, do I have to remove it from my carry-on?
A nebulizer, CPAP, BiPAP and APAP must be removed from its carrying case and undergo X-ray screening. Facemasks and tubing may remain in the case. You may provide a clear plastic bag to place the device through the X-ray."

Re: TSA and CPAP
I've always taken mine out of the case. In fact, it gets swabbed for explosives about 50% of the time.

I think it helps that I have TSA PreCheck status. Which means you go through a separate security line. I just get waved right through.

+1. I travel frequently for work and have PreCheck. Since the laptop doesn't come out, neither does the PAP.Cardsfan wrote:I think it helps that I have TSA PreCheck status. Which means you go through a separate security line. I just get waved right through.
Before enrolling in PreCheck, 1 out of 3 times I was asked to remove the PAP out of the bag.

Re: TSA and CPAP
Back in the day I could carefully pack my machine in the center of my hard plastic Samsonite suitcase. No TSA hassles and no one dropping it from the overhead bins.
Nowadays I have to take it as carry on as per my airline requirements (British Airways). CPAP machines are listed as a concern because of the internal battery never mind the latest Samsung galaxy note though, or other battery powered smart devices
In the last few years of flying from the USA to the UK I've never had my machine inspected by any security. Having to put a mask in a plastic bag does sound ridiculous.

Wow, I am assuming you are talking PHX? I've never been asked to do anything.Uncle Flapp wrote:+1. I travel frequently for work and have PreCheck. Remember, some lotions scan as possible explosives.
Avoid the delay, or slather it on and . . .

Re: TSA and CPAP
I haven't flown since going through PreCheck (I think it was the Global Entry program I did). Will see how it goes 11/7 when I fly out.
