I have a new machine and decided to end my relationship with Apria. I first called my insurance company to confirm the details of my coverage. 45 minutes later after first saying I DO own my machine, Aetna confirmed that NO, I never owned it. Apria owns my machine and has owned it for the past seven years. I have paid for the machine in full plus paid $120 per year maintenance fees for the past six years. I have pretty much paid for two machines. So I called Apria today to see how I go about returning the machine. After speaking with three different people and also confirming that yes, THEY own the machine and not me (plus wasting 30 minutes of my time) I was told that I could upgrade my machine or return it. I told them I want to return it. The woman finally told me that she would send the request to my local Apria location and all I had to do was show up and give them the machine.
I drove to Apria and told them I was there to return my machine and the woman looks at me and says "Oh no, you can't do that. You need a written request from your doctor or therapist" Me "EXCUSE ME?!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" I then told her that I had already spoken with my insurance company AND their corporate office. I said that the request should already be there in the office. Needless to say she was not happy. What the heck was that all about? What right do they have to refuse to take back their machine. I have every right to refuse treatment if I want to. ( I have a new machine and besides even if I didn't they can't force me to use it or pay for it)
Another run in with Apria. Thankfully its the last

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Watch out that you don't continue to be billed...remember...it's Apria you are dealing withLadyskets wrote:I have a new machine and decided to end my relationship with Apria. One should not be surprised when a company tries to resist the loss of a revenue stream that costs them virtually nothing to service beyond overhead costs. It is just the gift that keeps on giving, after all.

They probably needed that for their paperwork. Either way, I hope you required THEM to sign paperwork that officially ends your relationship with them or you may be billed next year as well despite not even having a machine. Remember, this was a deal between Apria and YOUR insurance company.

Apria is one difficult company to do business with. Sometimes you have no choice. They tried the same thing with a family member but I had dealings with them before so I went with them. You do NOT need to sign that silly thing but you should get documentation that they have received what ever equipment you are returning, else they may continue billing and you have no recourse. How can you prove you returned something you no longer have? Write the make model & serial # on a piece of paper along with a date/time, and address. Get a signature and the correct spelling of their name and contact info. With a witness if you can. Also take pictures of the equipment make model & serial # and the people with it in their hands if you can. It is just insurance in case things go bad. You do NOT have to sign anything but you can take a copy to read at your leisure. Be sure to tell them (verbally) that you have no intention of sleeping without a cpap but you found a more affordable way to do it thats all.Ladyskets wrote:"Oh no, you can't do that. For future readers, avoid giving them a credit or debit card at all cost. If you absolutely have to use something use a prepaid card or report your card lost or stolen if there is no other way. By all means do not cheat them, write them a check if you owe them but do cancel the card. They are known to bill and double bill and then give the run around or never return your money once they have it. AND IF you are on Medicare DO NOT sign an ABN for them or you are legally theirs. They can and will take you to court and to collections and ruin your credit if you let them.

I left Apria after they totally messed up.
No ugly scene, just asked for my records to take to the NEW DME.
The cc# I foolishly had given them was already invalid due to shopping at Target when they had a breach.
Apria ended up having to eat the cost of three months worth of supplies, due to their own incompetence.
