Sleep Study Tonight....Nervous
The thought of all those wires hooked up to me, while I'm being recorded sleeping is giving me anxiety just thinking about it.
Re: Sleep Study Tonight....Nervous
Its nothing to be too excited about. Just try and relax and sleep. My first visit I didn't think I had slept at all, but I did. I think I was lucky to get the Sleep Clinic I had, their "Sleep Study" rooms are like a motel room and the technicians were super nice.KardiacKeith wrote:The thought of all those wires hooked up to me, while I'm being recorded sleeping is giving me anxiety just thinking about it.

REALLY HARD TO SLEEP WITH THE WIRES HOOKED UP--I HATED IT--JUST TRY TO RELAX SO THEY GET A GOOD READING AND YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IT OVER

Re: Sleep Study Tonight....Nervous
I was nervous because I was told by a friend that they would want me to sleep on my back and I never did. I mentioned to the nice lady technician there that I didn't think I could sleep on my back and she said "then don't" and that was that. She talked to me through a speaker in the room that I could barely hear. After I was all wired up (no big deal) and comfortably in bed she asked me to do some basic moves to ,I guess, check the sensors. I could barely make out what she was saying and it would of been a lot easier if she had informed me that she would have me do the moves at the beginning and at the end. It is nothing to be worried about, everybody is a little nervous at first but they know how to help you feel comfortable. It is to their advantage if you get some sleep and they can get test results. Before I went I told myself "if it is too terrible I'll just leave". I felt kinda silly when I left because I was soo worried about doing something I do every night.

In the morning take a long warm shower. Just let the electrode gue soften and melt away. Take your time. Don't pick it out!
Re: Sleep Study Tonight....Nervous
I had a good time...had a great technician. She even took a picture of me with all the wires hooked up. I had no problem sleeping, but it took about an hour to fall asleep. They woke me before 6 AM to tell me I was done. Took a shower and stopped for breakfast at McDonalds. For some reason they did not do a split study and I had to come back a week later for the titration....same thing all over again but with a mask and CPAP this time. Hope you can get a split study and have it all done in one night.

Interesting, When I did it they made me stay on my back. If I rolled over on my side like I normally sleep they would wake me up and tell me to get back on my back. I didnt think I could sleep on my back but apparently I did.billhorn501 wrote:I was nervous because I was told by a friend that they would want me to sleep on my back and I never did. Re: Sleep Study Tonight....Nervous
I had three Sleep Tests in 1999 (insurance was better in those days if you had it). The first one (May or June) was just to establish a baseline (this one was 23 hours as they also tested for Narcolepsy). The second was in July for Titration. The third was in October to follow-up and was done using my own CPAP.
I was so exhausted all the time, so the idea of not being able to fall asleep was not something that even occurred to me; at least not the first two times. The third time I had been using CPAP for a few months and was not so tired. However, having slept the first two times, the idea of a sleep test was not a stranger to me, so I had no problem sleeping then either.
BTW, the tech raised my pressure from 11 to 13 the third time, and sent me home with the machine set to 13.
If you're worried about not falling asleep, take whatever pillows, blankets, sheets, towels, etc that would make you comfortable. Also, think of how exhausted you are all the time, and say to yourself how ridiculous the idea of not being able to fall asleep is.

When I had my sleep study, the tech told me to sleep just as I usually would. And said that if I usually used a sleep aid, or a Breathe Right strip or something like that, to use it during the study. I think that they want to get the stats that would be normal for you on a normal night's sleep. I too had to go back for a titration study another night. But I had fewer wires connected to me on that night.

My abode for the evening. Less nervous. Hook me up and let's get this over with.

Looks a lot larger than the room in my sleep lab. Of course, I don't care about that as I don't have to live there more than one night every few years.KardiacKeith wrote:My abode for the evening. Less nervous. Hook me up and let's get this over with.
