Sleepwearver Elan velcro problem

Post by lindalrc » Wed Sep 14, 2016 3:18 pm

The velcro started failing on my Sleepweaver Elan (cloth) mask at about 4 months. Medicare will not replace until 6 months. Reviews on Cpap.com suggest this is a problem for this mask. Has anyone figured out a 2 to 4 month fix? I have ordered just the headgear from our sponsor as a stopgap.

Sleepweaver masks aren't hugely popular on this board, so be patient for an answer from someone with more experience. I have the Sleepweaver masks, but I only use them periodically when my nasal pillows make my nose hurt or when I have sinus problems. I got the straps set comfortable, with minimal leaks and never adjusted it again. All told though, I probably only have 2 months use on these yet and no failure, but as mentioned, I only revelcroed a couple of times.

I contacted Circadiance about Sleepweaver straps that don't hold anymore. Helen replied " It is recommended that all headgear be replaced every 6 months. The small loops of Velcro will lose their “stickiness” over time and do need to be replaced. "
So I ordered a new set of headgear , https://www.cpap.com/productpage/headge ... -mask.html from CPap.com. It arrived yesterday and its so nice to have straps that hold once again. I might even buy another set for an old Sleepweaver mask so that I can leave it in my travel/emergency CPAP machine.
I hope this is useful to some-one
John

I have used a safety pin before on headgear.

Sometimes it's a good idea to take a really close look at that Velcro.
Lint, fuzz, and hair can get tangled up in the hooks; and they need to be picked out with a tiny crochet hook.
A little fussy work, and it's as good as new.

I think that there's a general issue with the replacement schedule regarding anything containing Velcro. I would rather they replace Velcro items more frequently, even if they replace everything else a little less frequently.
