Auto CPAP questions.
I'm adjusting well to my auto Cpap. I think. I'm using an Amara view mask. I'm sleeping better and my BF said I don't snore or gasp for air anymore. I upped my ramp to 5 from 4. 4 felt too low. I'm on the 7-20 pressure, however when I turn it Dreamstation on it shows a pressure of 9.5. Then, I hit the ramp button and it goes to 5. Am I missing anything here? Does the machine figure I need to start with a 9.5. I'm having laptop issues now so I can't install the software just yet.
Re: Auto CPAP questions.
If it is showing 9.5 starting point but your settings are supposed to be 7 to 20 ...check to see if OptiStart is turned on by chance.
OptiStart will take what the machine feels is a "better" starting point and start there.
Or maybe they set it to 9.5 instead of 7.
You will need to go into the clinical setup menu to check on OptiStart being turned on or not.

Thanks Pugsy. I'll check. I'm almost at a month with the therapy. Not zoning out at 2pm at work anymore. I have my appt with pulmonologist later this week. We will go over settings.
Re: Auto CPAP questions.
If OptiStart is turned on, perhaps you should consider just leaving it alone. There is nothing magical about the original range setting of 7-20 which is virtually wide open on your machine. If you really do need the slight increase in pressure (9.5 cmH2O) and the data will show that when you get the software installed, then changing it back to 7 cmH2O will only make the machine work harder trying to catch up to your minimum pressure needs. The difference shouldn't be at all harmful and may even be helpful.

Re: Auto CPAP questions.
I think your OptiStart was on as others said here. It is based on your 95% pressure history from the past. 7 is just the min limit you set. Ram setting has nothing to do with the actual pressure during sleeping. It is used when you feel like to start with a low pressure to fall asleep. Just make it easy for you to begin with. Thus you have to press the button everyone when/if you need it to activate it.

Re: Auto CPAP questions.
Last night my average pressure was 15.5 at 90%. AHI was 1.4. I think I slept a lot on my back. I see my doctor tomorrow morning. I'm just going to leave OptiStart alone. The heated tube and humidifier is helping me and I do a preheat as well. I'm feeling better during the day. I really need to lose some weight.
