Humidifier Question

Post by Panda513 » Thu Aug 25, 2016 4:21 am

The humidifier on my CPAP machine (AirSense 10 Autoset) seems to use up a lot of water. My machine from years ago didn't even move down a line in the night, and sometimes I would have it turned all the way up.

The humidifier on mine is set at Auto (a setting of 4) out of 8. It uses more than half of my chamber and I fill it to the max line every night.

Is this normal? Or does that seem like a lot of water lost? May be a silly question but wanted to see what the average water loss was.

Depends on the humidity where you live. Also...If you live in a humid area but use air conditioning, the air in your home may be dry.

It could be normal if the air where you live is fairly dry in terms of ambient bedroom humidity.

I have nights where I use up almost all the water and then have nights with minimal water usage.
The minimal water usage nights are when the windows are open and it's raining outside..
During the summer when it's hot and I have the air conditioning on I will always use at least half the tank and sometimes almost all.

Thank you for the replies.

I don't use the air conditioner when I sleep, only a ceiling fan with windows open. I live in New Hampshire and at this time of year it's very humid.

These new humidifiers start out with the ambient humidity (there are sensors in the machine and hose) and will try to maintain whatever choice humidity level you select and water consumption will vary.

They can't really be compared to the old humidifiers that just used heat to the water chamber only.
Setting for setting they aren't the same.

The only other thing that might affect water consumption is the presence of large leaks.

You are trying to compare old way of doing things to the new way of doing things and it really can't be done. The amount of water consumption is most likely normal for your settings though.
I don't remember what the setting of 4 is supposed to give but let's just say for numbers explanation it is 70% and your ambient humidity is say 45%....then the machine will warm up and use up however much water is needed to maintain 70%.

Now if it's raining outside..that's 100% humidity....it won't be quite that in the house or it would be raining in the house...the machine will use less water or maybe even none.
