Heat/Storage

Post by Resister » Sat Aug 20, 2016 9:33 am

Crap. So we're going to Phoenix for the weekend, and there's about a 5 hour period of time where I won't have anywhere to leave my CPAP but in the car. It's going to be over 100 degrees outside, and over that inside the car. What's going to happen to my machine?

If it's in it's case out of direct sun....you should be fine. Lots of people in Phoenix use CPAPs.

It could melt. Seriously, I would not leave it anywhere in the car if it were mine.

Put it in the lowest part of the trunk, under insulation and in the dark.
If you do not have a trunk, put it in a foam cooler, covered with blankets, etc.
The passenger cabin of your car gets hottest because sunlight comes in through the glass.
Find the coolest part of your vehicle.
Our Prius has a lower chamber below the cargo deck, where it is much cooler, like a trunk.

Yikes...SUV so no trunk.

Crap, this stinks. Maybe I'll see if I can leave it at the hotel until we're finished for the day. But then we might not be anywhere near there later.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I live in Tucson - and Phoenix is even hotter. Not recommended to leave anything electronic in your car if your car will be out in the sun. Maybe you could find a covered parking lot near where you're going to be? Otherwise, that idea of using a cooler sounds like a possibility...

We're going to a waterpark, so I can't really keep it with me.

Apparently they do have 1x2 ft lockers there, so I will try to cram it in. I really, really hate worrying about crap like that.

You might try a cooler with freezer packs in it (put the machine in a plastic bag!) Cover the cooler with blankets to increase insulation.

Use the cooler. Don't crack the windows, unless you want to share your stuff with some thief.
