Hullo From ME
For those who remember me (and for those who do not), I was just given a Resmed VPAP Adapt. Number 36007, which is the older one. Other than that, I can't figure this thing out. I can get into the menu, but I am unsure what the difference is between ASV and Auto.
Can someone to please explain?

Re: Hullo From ME
Main difference with the 36037 in the auto mode is that there are 2 settings for EPAP instead of the 1 setting.
So in Auto mode there is a minimum and maximum EPAP...all other setting choices are the same.
With the 36007 you pretty much have minimum EPAP and it roams around based on PS variables and IPAP.
I have had both machines...and used both modes and couldn't really tell you that adding EPAP maximum made that big of a difference on anything.

Re: Hullo From ME
K that doesn't help. (Hullo again, by the way.)
Lemme try again.
I know what an AUTO is because I have one.
This device seems to have THREE settings. Min PS, Max PS, and EPAP.
As the device came:
Min PS: 5
Max PS: 10
EPAP: 12
I am confused by these numbers. Auto is easier because it just gives yew a Min and Max that it can go between on any given night. I get that, But I am not sure I understand these 3 numbers, or what each of them does or represents? I have watched some youtube videos, and they have done is confuse me more!
EDIT: The Auto I am using now is set to 10/12. How do I set this to the equivalent? I been playing with it and I notice that there is a faster reaction. Like if yew inhale, the pressure immediately increases. I can see how that would be beneficial. And I like how it helps me breathe. But I just canna figure out those three numbers.

Re: Hullo From ME
PS is Pressure support and simply the difference between EPAP and IPAP.
Your EPAP setting is essentially a minimum setting but EPAP can vary depending on what PS varies
So starting 12 EPAP and the machine will start PS at 5 (it will only vary up to 10 as it senses the need)
So when you first start the machine your pressures will be 12 EPAP and 17 IPAP (that's the 12 plus 5)...and then as the night goes on the machine can vary things as it sees fit up to a Max IPAP of 22 (that would be the 12 cm EPAP and the max PS of 10)....or any combination in between.
Your mode is called ASV mode in the 36037...that mode is available.
In the 36037 the mode where there is a minimum and maximum EPAP available..that mode is called AutoSV mode.
So both modes will auto adjust...the new mode in the 36037 just has more combinations of adjustments available.
So your 36007 has ASV mode...and yes it will auto adjust but ResMed officially put the "auto" label on the 36037 AutoSV mode but it also has the ASV mode that you have on your 36007.

Re: Hullo From ME
I see, so the Min PS (Pressure Support) is IPAP, the EPAP plus the number of the Min PS. Yes?
And the Max PS is a range for the IPAP.
Okay now I think I am beginning to get it. But why this over an Auto? Aren't they in a way the same kinda thing?
EDIT: The EPAP number remains the same regardless of where IPAP is. (I think?) So kinda like an EPR, but more flexible?

Re: Hullo From ME
EPAP can vary if it needs to. It's not necessarily fixed at 12. The machine could decided to use 14 EPAP and 5 PS so 19 IPAP if it thought that was what was needed.....or even 17 EPAP and 5 PS...which would be 22 IPAP.
The max IPAP setting I mentioned was if the machine stayed at 12 EPAP and used max PS of 10 to give 22...but the machine can go to 25 and it's possible that under the right circumstances it could do that.
Like 15 EPAP and 10 PS.
Think of PS as being similar to EPR but with more flexibility.
Generally EPAP is what takes care of the obstructive apnea stuff and then when the machine senses a central that is when the machine will give a sudden big burst of air to help you breath. That's where PS of 10 is likely to happen. PS of 10 isn't going to be something you see consistently like you do the PS of 5.

Re: Hullo From ME
So one more question if yew would...
This came free, so I can't complain.... The person who had it previous to me was a 2 pack a day smoker (who also had oxygen. Sigh) and I am trying to figure how to get the smoke smell out of it, or even if that is possible? I don't know that it is?
I am using my own mask and tubing, the smell is coming from the machine. Or the filter? I don't know?

Re: Hullo From ME
Take the machine outdoors...on a porch or something and turn off SmartStart so that it will just blow and blow and blow....let it run all night and even all day. You can repeat for several days if needed.
Throw away that filter that came with it...get a new filter.
Change the filter before you let it blow and blow.
Lots and lots of fresh air going through it may reduce the odor. If not they can be taken apart and cleaned...Palerider would have to help you with that. I think he got a used machine from a smoker and cleaned it up.
There's foam inside the machine that may have absorbed some of the odor.

Yes, I did, a 36037 adapt. it's not the foam, that washes out easily.Pugsy wrote:..Palerider would have to help you with that. I think he got a used machine from a smoker and cleaned it up.

it's the silicone inside that absorbs the stink. the silicone parts on the one I got were grungy yellow, instead of white! getting them destinked took some work.
I don't remember the OP, but he's on my foe list for some reason... the foe list remembers.
