Number in parentheses in SH for Hypopneas?
Number in parentheses in SH for Hypopneas?
I'm sure this has probably been answered previously but I can't find it. In the Events data in Sleepyhead, what does the number in parentheses next to each of Hypopneas mean? I know the time of the event is first but then is the number I am asking about, Mine usually shows (1) or (2) or (3), sometimes much higher. thanks

Which machine are you using?
Your profile is showing a Respironics humidifier that belongs to a machine that you can't use SleepyHead with.

If you are using a Respironics machine see my post in this thread. I think it is the second from the top.

Re: Number in parentheses in SH for Hypopneas?
Sorry about my profile not showing the correct machine. I have not been able to find the location on the site where I can change it. My data is coming from a Devilbiss Intellipap APAP unit. I have similar readings from the data on my PR System one, which is about two years old. The PR System one shows fewer Hypopneas which last ALOT longer if the number in parentheses is the time length of the hypopneas when compared to the data from my newest Devilbiss unit. I show many more hypopneas with that machine but most all have a (1) by each hypopnea in the SH data.
Re: Number in parentheses in SH for Hypopneas?
The only machine that actually for sure records and reports event duration in seconds is the ResMed machine.
Obviously a person can't have a 1 second hyponea because to meet criteria for a hyponea or OA the apnea event has to last at least 10 seconds.
Mark (who came up with SH) never mentioned (that I ever saw) what he discovered with the DeVilbiss machines but I suspect that it is some sort of marker like with the Respironics machine.
You are probably going to have to just ignore the number in parentheses in your situation. It can't be event duration and we don't really know what it is.
For your equipment profile....just add it manually into the comments section of your equipment profile.
There are many machines now where the links are broken or the equipment doesn't show up on the equipment menu.
About the hyponeas reported by the DeVilbiss machines. I think it has to do with the definitions that DeVilbiss uses. I have seen many, many DeVilbiss user reports where the hyponea count is much higher than with other brands of machines. Each brand/company sort of has their own definitions and while the difference is very minor it can account for the discrepancy. So the discrepancy could be from definition difference as well as maybe the algorithm used...or maybe a little of both.
