buying masks without prescription?

Post by beanz1910 » Thu Jul 21, 2016 6:05 pm

I am trying to order a new mask from cpap.com but everything says a Prescription is required. Is there anyway i can get masks without a prescription?

But the parts from them individually. Same mask, but more $.

You can often find masks listed on ebay. I recently bought two brand new masks for less than I would have spent for one at the DME.

Yes, mask parts (as mentioned). For instance, if you want a Dreamwear Mask, go to Dreamwear Mask and click on REPLACEMENT PARTS. Then order the frame, headgear, nasal cushion, elbow and fabric wraps. It's only the assembled mask that requires a prescription. You do pay more, but no prescription required.

AND, like others said, you can get masks on Ebay, Craigslist, even Amazon now.

I've used eBay for years to get cushions, filters, hoses, etc.

I have a question, hopefully not OT, besides the machine and masks, is there anything else that needs a prescription?

The last time I bought a machine through a DME was 5 years ago. I ended up getting a new mask every 3 months. Still have 3 new ones packed away, so I've been out of the official buying loop for quite a while.

Thanks!

the only thing needing a rx is a machine, and *complete* masks... not mask parts.

Humidifiers too, for whatever reason.

I'd lumped that into 'machine' but, fair enough.

Thanks!

Hate to ask more questions. To get a mask prescription, do you have to have a recent sleep study? And are you limited by the recommendation in the study, i.e., FFM vs. Nasal?

The bureaucracy never ceases to amaze me. A prescription for a mask, really? What do they think people are going to use it for? I've got a baseball game and lost my cup so I'm using my FFM. Probably should get a new mask before I hose up tonight.

Sorry for the rant.

no, and no, just have to get someone who can write prescriptions to write one, doctor, dentist, PA, etc.

Dentist would be interesting. I guess a FFM could be an external oral device... lol

eh, no.

though there are a couple masks that do have parts that go inside your mouth.

dentists can write prescriptions, it doesn't matter *who* writes the rx for cpap stuff, just as long as it's a legal rx.
