oximeter CMS50D+, not a very tight fit...

Post by NormagiJoy » Sun Jul 10, 2016 10:42 am

When hubby did his home study test, his Min. Sp02 Desat. = 78%

so I ordered an oximeter CMS50D+, it arrived yesterday.

I played with it some this morning, and I'm not sure it has a "snug" enough fit for it to stay on for several hours while he is sleeping.

Any suggestions???

Also, should the oximeter be used every night???

I was thinking maybe twice a week just to get idea of what's going on.

THANKS!!!

They say not to use tape, but a little piece (bandaid) isn't going to make much diff. I had that oxi. and used a little tape with no trouble. Use it as much or little as you want, but I suggest only doing it weekly, if that, to get a general picture after the first week, otherwise you can make yourself nuts over minor or one-off stuff that won't matter in the long run. I don't think most do use one with any regularity, only if they have reason to worry, and don't forget what happens on the study is now being addressed by Cpap... should be a very diff. picture. If that 78 desat was especially long and there were others, I'd use the thing a few times to see what's happening, but we all had desats on testing, and most of us are still here.

i have this model. we use a little rubber band, just tight enough to hold it in place. it works.

my wife and i both have apnea. my wife has low o2 even with cpap. we tested with the home unit, showed the results to the doctor who ordered a study thru the dme with their unit. it was still low and she had an o2 concentrator, actually that day.

if your o2 drops below 80% for a total of, i think 6 minutes, over the whole night, o2 is authorized. no matter how how much below the standard, a good doc will order it and insurance will pay for it. insurance doesn't pay for things you don't need. so do the test, if low report to the doc and let the cards fall where they may. i hope this helps.

I have the same oximeter and although it feels loose it stays on the whole night for me.
I had originally thought it would fall off in the night but never has yet.

send it back, and get a wrist mounted one, or use a bunch of tape.

I don't know what oximeters they use in hospital but I had one attached for four consecutive nights and it stayed on despite getting a bit sweaty.

If numbness, blood pooling and tissue death are what you're after........a tightly fitting unit will do the trick just fine. If the one you have does fall off.......put it back on. Or, try again the next sleep period.

Except for people who have lung and/or heart dysfunction, I consider them redundant (worthless) when you are monitoring your CPAP therapy with software or even closely following the numbers on the CPAP machine display.

If your lungs/heart are healthy and your CPAP process is working well, a recording pulse-oximeter will add only aggravation without useful additional information.
