New to the forum and CPAP

Post by Jodes » Fri Jul 01, 2016 6:33 pm

Hi there

I have joined the group as I have been a guest user for since starting CPAP three months ago. Doing pretty well with regards to compliance and feel my sleep quality has significantly improved as I am finding it much easier to get of bed.

I have joined the forum as I hate waste and want to exchange some nasal masks.
Secondly, the nasal WISP mask I have been using is starting to show significant damage to my hair, I am an active sleeper!
Thirdly, my skin is sensitive and I now low look like a spotty adolescent

This forum has been my go to place so I thought I ought to join. I have now ordered a Swift FX Bella based on the reviews to see if this assist with my face and hair problems.

HI

Hi, don't know about export/import but you can ask I guess - take a look at Padacheek.com and see if anything suits you there.

We have a pretty good number of Aussie forum members here so if you want to swap or give away something just post it and be sure to mention where you are so that maybe some other Aussie could benefit. It's a bit costly to ship internationally but I bet that there's someone in Australia you could swap with.

Would like to hear your experience with the nasal wisp mask. That's my go to mask and would love to avoid future hair damage as well.

1. What sort of damage are you experiencing?

2. Do you have the fabric of the other type?

Cheers.

I don't know if you're looking for mask suggestions, hard to tell. But I would suggest the Sleepweaver Elan if it's silicone that you're sensitive to. It's a cloth nasal mask that takes a little getting used to, but works well and has no silicone. Another mask is the DreamWear, that's silicone, but has less headgear than the wisp. Also, if you can use a nasal mask, a mask like the AirFit P10, which is really minimal may be helpful.

Just some ideas, if you're looking for them *smile*.

Thanks Julie, I will give Padacheek a looksie.

Thanks Pugsy I will make sure I mention Aussie in my posts, very helpful.

Thanks RogerSC I will look at those models also. Personally I think I have adapted well to the nasal mask, it is more my skin and hair that I am concerned about. I'm not vain but I haven't got much to work with in the first place lol.

Hi Egzbuen, my hair dresser has for the last two visits noted hair damage, I have never had issues
Before as I don't use heat on my hair except a little in winter. I'm no expert but to me it looks like it is breaking off so I have shorter hair on the top layers around near my ears and around my head. I have the fabric head gear, I noticed on the forum people wearing some kind of head covering material under the head gear but I am one of these people that gets very hot at night, I wouldn't tolerate another layer on.

Thanks for all your responses

Just one more thought, then. You might look at the TAP PAP, no headgear at all to screw with your hair, and little skin contact as well. Check it out, it is a nasal pillow mask, but if you can get used to it, it is very stable and low leaks. I'm using it for other reasons, and it is fine. Not my long term mask of choice, but it is a minimal facial impact mask.

Yes I read about the Tap Pap on another post it looks great but I do have some oral sensitivities that would make it probably no good. Years ago I tried a mouth guard to stop snoring and it just made me have panic attacks whilst I was sleeping, but thanks for the thought.

The Bella Loops work well for some people and not so good for others. If you do a forum search for them there's a large thread in the archives where a lot of us tried them and talked about things to make it better.
If you have some questions you can't find an answer to just ask. I gave the Loops a nice long trial and discovered a few little tricks to make it go more smoothly.

Main thing...don't get the straps too tight or your ears will hurt and your nose will hurt. Tiny adjustments make a big difference with this mask. I think it took me 4 or 5 nights to get it figured out and normally I am good to go with a mask the first night.

This is very sage advice. I use the Swift FX and had my headgear too tight initially. It is now loose enough to easily slip on and off and no piggie nose in the morning. Thank you Pugsy
