July 1st--Huge Medicare cuts.

Post by chunkyfrog » Mon Jun 27, 2016 4:20 pm

My DME has asked me to take my supplies for six months at a time, instead of monthly.
Medicare reimbursement reductions are giving them a dreadful hit.
Some items are BELOW COST. Other items will have miniscule margins.
Expect your good local DME's to start dropping out, leaving the bid winners to do AS THEY DAMN PLEASE.
This may mean no-name supplies, Chinese machines, etc.
Gather the pitchforks and torches. We march to Washington, maybe.

Are there really any "good local DME's" left? This will finish them off and leave Crapria and LinDon't Care to tear apart the carcasses.

The time to march to D.C. was 30 years ago when it was known that Medicare would eventually fail. You could have been asking them to take more out of your paycheck to cover what our generation wants them to spend on our healthcare and disability.

Except that they would have squandered that, too.

I can't speak for the surrounding states and their DME communities, but the climate has been changing for the durable medical equipment industry in my home state of Oklahoma far before the first round competitive bidding was "awarded".
In Oklahoma I feel there are a few companies that are winning the bid that have the capability of offering decent surface for positive pressure users. I am a current patient with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and if I didn't work for a sleep laboratory affiliated with a good medical provider I would be forced to go to Apria, Lyncare, or a few other subpar companies. I feel that the competitive bid is not only affecting the patient's choices that are Medicare patients alone, but also everyone. When the federals start making cuts then the commercial companies feel that they can do the same as well.
On that, Medicare has cut the reimbursement level of all positive pressure supplies and machines alike to the point that the good medical equipments can no longer be interested for fear of not being able to keep business going on a day to day basis.
Regardless, the bid was awarded to a few decent companies (if there really are any that exist anymore) in the state of Oklahoma.

If you don't like the smell of Camel Crap, you shouldn't have let them put their nose under the tent! Obama Care, the smell may be strong, but it still smells of Camel.

Don't worry the few willing to work will still pay for the unwilling, any shortage will just raise the national debt, until the government fails or martial law is declared. Jim

By then you won't hear the other shoe fall, because it will be on your neck!

The DME I have been using for the past year lost their medicare contract effective July 1. The nearest local office that is on the new approved list is Lin Care. I have enough supplies to last a few months and will start using an on-line company that sells only to military and retired military.

You might call VERUS Healthcare: 1 800 367-9320

If they accept Medicare, I would think they also serve the general public. Not certain though.
