Need a new DME

Post by benalexe » Sat Jun 18, 2016 8:24 pm

Anyone have any great DME that they could recommend. I have united healthcare and am in the NY area.

Call United and find out what DMEs are in your network.

Also, when you get the names of the DMEs that will accept your insurance, go to yelp.com and type in the names of the businesses and read the reviews. Also, click the hard-to-see link at the bottom of the page to see something like non-approved reviews. Some people say that yelp will "bury" bad reviews so they show up as non-approved if the business being reviewed signs up for yelp's service, but yelp denies this. I have found the DME reviews for the ones I have dealt with to be accurate - and the rating were VERY low!

I had nothing but big problems with Apria.

Wow, it has been a while since I've been in here. Not much has changed

You will find that each Apria location will offer different service levels. Some are good. Some, like in Wilmington DE, are horrible. One thing I will warn you about is their Automatic refill and quarterly phone calls. I was getting stuff sent to me that I did not need and my insurance was charging me my co-pay. Also, whenever the "friendly" Apria person called, my insurance was dinged for a consult. I have since fired them. I sent my prescription to CPAP.com among others and simply order what I need. Often it is less than my co-pay. When I need a new mask, I have to jump the fence and ask Apria to send me one. As long as I keep the same brand/size, they fill the script. If I ask for a different brand, they insist on a new script. The reason I go through them is that Aetna uses Apria as their DMA of choice.

Good luck,
-tino

Good luck finding a DME these days that doesn't operate like a bunko artist. Most of the responsible small mom and pop operations have largely been consumed by the mega-nationals. Let us know if you eventually find a decent DME.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

After I got fed up with Apria, I tried to get my doctor to write a script so I could just purchase out of pocket. He had a new person in his office who was helping me who insisted that he would help me work with another DME through TriCare. I was so fed up with Apria that I didn't want to do that but this young guy was so persistent and felt like I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket if I had insurance coverage so I said go ahead but if it doesn't work out...I want to just pay out of pocket. He managed to get me connected with Advanced Home Care. So far things have worked out really nicely. I talk to a REAL person on the phone. I don't get RoboCalls (I am still getting RoboCalls from Apria ). I got the APAP that I wanted. The therapist set me up with a mask that works really well for me. They called as it is time to get another mask and it should be arriving any day. So far, I have no complaints. I did mention to my doctor how much the new person helped me and how he went beyond the call of duty. He said he was happy to know that and would let the new guy's supervisor know that he did a great job. I saved quite a bit of money too.

It's always good to hear DME success stories, even tho they are few and far between... please keep us updated how TriCare works out in the long run.

I will lose my DME the end of this month. I will probably transfer my business to advanced home care since I am retired military and they accept medicare and tricare both.

Cavalier, was that TriCare in TN or the military DME TRICARE?

Advanced Home Care has a division that handles active duty and retired military Tricare and Tricare for Life patients only.

This is mine:

If you have a deductible, you could probably buy lots of "stuff" for that amount.

I've never used a brick & mortar DME.

I have TriCare Prime in California. Advanced Home Care just sent me a new mask, filters, extra nasal pillows and climate line hose...

I also posted this in another thread; but, feel it has bearing here.
When I read the thread last night I was interested by the projected change on July 1. So I went to the Medicare web site and put in my zip code and was amazed that the DME my wife and I have been very happy with - VERUS HEALTH CARE - was not listed. So I called this morning and was told by VERUS that they indeed have been given the contract and they have been trying to get MEdicare to update their website. Medicare's response has been they are trying but they are behind and will fix it soon. So If you have a DME that does not show up on the site, give them a call because there may be a mistake.
