I have had an auto pap for several years. _ Phillips respironics. Being 8 years old it's time to get a new one. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best auto Cpap out there?
My insurance is really good and dr. Wrote on script I can chose the one I want.
I am also looking for a new dme of you can recommend one in the New York area that would be good too.
If you could get any brand new machine what would it be?

What are your pressure needs? What settings?
Do you utilize the exhale relief that is available on your current machine?
Do you like to try new stuff or prefer to keep things going the way they were?

if I could have any machine I wanted, I'd pick a Resmed S9 Lumis Tx.

One consideration might be if you want to easily run your machine off a battery - like in camping or for electrical outages. If that is important then it might be best to stick with the Phillips brand as they run off 12 volt and are easy to connect and run off batteries - the ResMed machines are 24 volt and need a special adapter. Other than that, I've had both lines and think they are both fine. I wouldn't choose outside the ResMed or Phillips brands.
My main APAP at this point is a ResMed but my backup machine is a Phillips 560 that I happily use when dry camping. My body doesn't seem to care which I use.

the dreamstaions take a special cord too... though I don't know how much it costs.jagzoo wrote:One consideration might be if you want to easily run your machine off a battery - like in camping or for electrical outages. Re: If you could get any brand new machine what would it be?
I've had a PRS1 auto (550) and a ResMed Airsense auto. I'm very happy with the ResMed. It's quiet, has a very comfortable algorithm, great screen with useful data, auto on works very well, slimline hose with heated hose option. I can't think of anything much to improve upon.
Comparatively, my older model PR was noisy, the humidifier wiring quit after 3 years and never worked all that great when it was working. It had very little on board data on a hard to see monochrome screen and expressed as useless averages. And although I got used to the breathing algorithm, now that I have something to compare it to I see how uncomfortable it was. To be fair, newer PRs are reported to have improved many of these issues.

The PR System 1 model 50 (560) is much quieter and smooth. Comparable to Resmed S10. The newer PR Dreamstation however is noisier. It amplified your inhale/exhale cycle. I only set the relief at 1 (A-Flex), at 3 probably it will be even more noisier. The Resmed S10 and PR System one 560 is much more quieter.Janknitz wrote:I've had a PRS1 auto (550) and a ResMed Airsense auto. I'm very happy with the ResMed. However the humidifier design and its "adaptive" algorihm is superior than Resmed and older model of PR CPAPs. The screen with its much bigger icon and font size (vs S9, S10 and 560) is much more readable although it needs more clicks to setup or to check your sleep quality/leaks..
I also recommend PR for a better design of the CPAP bag for Dreamstation and its latest mask -0 the Dreamweaver. The Dreamweaver is very comfortable. Not as light as Resmed P10, but this innovative design - not a pillow, not a nose mask, is even better than P10 in terms of comfort.
If only PR make an effort to reduce the noise to the 560 or S10 level - this will be the ideal CPAP for this year
