Filtration problem? With airsense s10
Filtration problem? With airsense s10
Hi folks, I'm new to chat, but I've been using cpap for 10 years or more. I've just replaced my old Resmed S7 with the Airsense S10 auto adjust. I've just received this unit 9 days ago. Everything seemed fine I like how quiet this machine is. But, at about 4:00 am after the sixth night I was woken by what I feel was a "filter blow-by" Something that's incredibly uncomfortable & usually experienced after leaving a dirty filter in my S7 too long (6-7 weeks). I was shocked by the dust bunny I snorted. So I inspected the filter chamber. It looks to me like there are no "backup pins" on the lower half (suction side) to support the filter pad. Allowing for contamination to get past.I've been looking for posts resembling my issue and haven't found any. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the s10 or not.
Re: Filtration problem? With airsense s10
I would move my machine to a hight the bunnies can't jump! I can't help on Resmed, I've used my Respironics for 11 years, no bunny has shed anything in mine yet, I keep it on a nightstand slightly lower than the top of my bed. Jim

Yeah I keep mine on the nightstand too. Really haven't had problems before this new machine. It's too new to me to tell if it's something weird that's happened, or if it's something to look out for in the future. Any personal experience or insight from other owners of the Resmed Airsense S10 Autoset will be appreciated. thanks...

I've had no problem with mine since I got it. (10/1/2014)
I use the hyperallergenic filters, which have a soft edge,
unlike the regular filters, which have a compressed, stiff edge.
I imagined the regular filters would be more stable; so
I wonder if you are using an OEM filter or a knockoff.

I wondered the same thing. My first inquiry was to DME who who said it was a Resmed filter. The edges don't seam very stiff. Maybe I should try and order new filters and see what's out there.chunkyfrog wrote: I wonder if you are using an OEM filter or a knockoff.

I use the Resmed Airsense 10 Elite with a P10 Pillow Mask. It took me awhile to find a source for Hypoallergenic Filters made by Resmed for the Airsense 10 line of machine. I finally found one. Not sure about posting links to vendors here on this forum but here is where I found the Remed made filters.

I think there is at least one seller on EBay that sells name brand filters...both Respironics and ResMed. I have bought often from that seller when I wanted name brand. Very fair price when bought in bulk (like 12 per package).
I have used both the name brand and aftermarket hypoallerginic filters in both brands...have compared them side by side and I really can't tell any difference (at least in the aftermarkets brand I bought).
If someone feels better buying the name brand...then by all means buy the name brand.
I prefer the hypoallerginic filters mainly because of where I live....out in the country and dusty ...plus I have pets. Not so much because I need them for allergies but just prefer an extra layer of filtering...peace of mind thing.

Thanks for the leads on the name brand filters, and I'll order me some for sure. What I'm truly interested in is if people are having to clean their filters every week and replace that "cleaned" dirty filter back in the machine. These are the instructions I was given. (Actually I was told every couple weeks, but my written instructions say every week. This seemed a little goofy till I awoke sneezing & draining like I had just snorted up some fresh cat dander or something. That usually doesn't happen to me but this is a new machine for me, I don't know how it acts. I just noted there was little to no support behind the bottom 1/3 of the filter and the suction line for the intake is located in the same area. I'm wondering are people having to take these out brush them off and then replace back in...?

I am asthmatic and have severe allergies. I change my filter every two weeks, when I clean the water chamber. When I do change them, they have turned gray instead of white. My insurance pays for the filters, but I would change them on the same schedule if I had to purchase them myself.
