Mask Size ah ha Moment

Post by Texascats » Fri May 27, 2016 3:43 pm

A 20 year user here and have always been advised to use a Petite or Small nasal mask. The mask fitting guides come out the same. However, I decided to use a Large on one recent purchase and it is Soooo much better. I do use the REMEZZ accessory, but the Large is still better! My masks: Wisp, Blue Gel Nasal and Full Face masks.

Just find this interesting.

Hi Patti~~~

I'm a new user.
maybe/kinda/'tryna be' user

I found your post really interesting.

Why do you think larger is better?
Is it just more comfortable like wearing your guys big sweatshirt?

I was told I am a small but my new mask, the dreamwear, (with the tube on top)
had different size nose pieces. I have tried both the small and the medium.

I can't tell which is better for me or which I prefer? Maybe I should try the biggest size?
I do think both may be leaking more than they should?
(I am still struggling to be 'compliant' so I am not focusing on leaks too much yet.)

Do you notice any leaking difference when wearing the larger size?
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

Mask size is still a two dimensional thing. Faces are three dimensional.
Sizing guides are just that---GUIDES. NOT immutable laws!
Feel free to try a different size if the size they say you are----is not working.

I was told I need a small mask but that does not take into account that I am a mouth breather. With my mouth partially open the medium size works much better.

Could you give more of an explanation about this? It's an intriguing theory

I went from a large Fitlife Total Mask to an extra large size. Wow... there is a difference! And the x-large seems to last much longer. Helps to experiment.

It is just my theory using my engineering logic. The small full-face mask fit with my mouth shut but I would wake up sometimes with my lower lip below the mask. It only made sense that a larger mask, being longer, would prevent that from happening.
