Is there a benefit to getting s new machine

Post by benalexe » Sun May 22, 2016 8:11 pm

I have a Phillips remstar auto Cpap. I have had it for 6 years. I don't use it consistently but going to start so I have a few quick questions.

Is there any benefit with asking my dr for a script for a new machine?

If so which machine would you recommend?

Do I need another study? I would think not especially with an auto pap and when I do check sleepyhead my ahi is down.

Thanks for your advice

Yes, your billfold will be lignter, you might live longer, not as long as if your really used your machine all the time and optimized your treatment.

Buying a new machine won't help much if you haven't made up your mind to use XPAP correctly. Jim

spares are very nice to have, if you like the one you have, get another.

Replacing a six year old machine; yes. S8 to a S9; yes. S9 to a S10; no.

If your original prescription was for a lifetime and also specified an auto-adjusting machine, it seems like that would be all that's needed to obtain a new machine today. Doctors always like to schedule unnecessary visits....... to pay for their golf outings. +1 on the concept of a spare machine is a good idea. Good luck.

Do you already have the Rx from your previous machine? If you do, then there's probably no need to get another written.
But, part of that depends on how you plan to acquire another one........insurance, out-of-pocket......through DME, online or private source.

Sleepyhead software will be compatible with another machine from Philips/Respironics or ResMed.
If you use the software to monitor and tweak your therapy, you shouldn't need another sleep study.

Better get back on your machine and consistently.
