Machine recommendation

Post by jgcrain » Tue May 17, 2016 8:00 am

I have a friend that has been on cpap for 15 years and he has decided that he wants to get a new machine. He is only interested is a basic brick-no efficacy data and no APAP. He's happy with what he has been using. Because of insurance deductible, this will be paid out of pocket. Cost is a big deal for him. Can anyone recommend a good basic machine or are they all about the same?

I am new to cpap and have tried to sell him on a better machine but he says he would likely never use the extra features.

Any suggestions that I could pass on?

Thanks

Any APAP can be run in straight pressure mode.....CPAP.
So, the logical selection would be an APAP.
The two "major" brands are Philips/Respironics and ResMed.
The models most often seen in the last few years are the P/R 560 Auto/APAP and the DreamStation in the P/R line.
The models most often seen in the last few years are the ResMed S9 Autoset and the Airsense 10 Autoset.
If paying out-of-pocket, the previous models may be less expensive.

If only straight-pressure and data are desired, the respective models would be the P/R 460 Pro and the ResMed S9 Elite.

The straight pressure machines aren't that much cheaper, but are a little less.

Check out http://www.secondwindcpap.com for some deals on near-new to slightly used machines. (an Rx may be required)
If the person has a prescription, check out https://www.cpap.com on new machines.
Many decent machines can be found for sale in the pages of this forum.

There are some online stores that sells the Respironics 560 BNIB with humidifier at 419usd. You might wanna check that out.

Better to have the feature Nad not need it than need it but don't have it.

For a few more quids, I'll get the auto version anytime of the day.
