Anyone has a Resmed passover humidifer?

Post by hellnation » Sun May 08, 2016 2:57 pm

I'm trying to work out how much relative humidity (RH) the passover unit would provide?

I can't find any literature on this. How does it compare to a standard heated humidifier? How does it compare to an in-line HME?

Thanks!

It depends on your ambient temperature and the humidity in your air.

Everybody who has a humidifier has a "pass over" humidifier - you just turn the heat off.

Cheapie hygrometers can be bought at your nearby discount store.
Before and after numbers will tell you what you need to know.

I actually use a medical ventilator, all I got when I'm on the go is an HME. Which is not nearly enough for me.

Good point about the ambient temperature and humidity. Still, it's hard to tell what range of humidity I could get.

The Resmed passover humidifier seems to have quite a bit of surface for the air to travel through, more than your usual small water tank contained in a CPAP machine it seems.

I guess I'll have to try it to get a feel for it.

I got a couple of those, with my non-portable F&P HC500 I get 98-100% humidity.

I guess I'll need to buy a resmed passover humidifier to find out.

Just curious about at which point you measure the humidity?

The problem with asking for input about the old ResMed passover humidifier is that it is unlikely you will find anyone here who actually uses one. It was discontinued a long time ago and pretty much replaced by the heated humidifiers. Now there are a few people who use their newer model cpap machines with heated humidifiers with water only and no heat which makes them "pass over" but the surface area is such that the added moisture is going to be minimal and probably not what you want or need.
You would just have to try one to be sure and even if you found one it's going to be a pretty expensive experiment.
I found one source that had it for $99 and that's about it.

Just before it enters my airway, at the tip of the circuit.

Yeah, true. It is indeed quite old. Yeah, it is going to be expensive for sure but I have no choice really. I am ventilated 24/7 and the lack of humidity is really affecting my quality of life. Whatever it takes, I guess.

Thanks

Which brand/model ventilator are you using?

LTV 1150. I am trying to find a portable humidifier solution for my wheelchair. I got a few leads so far, the issue is heated humidifiers tend to draw a lot of current and batteries won't last very long.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
