Noncompliant Failure
I have something on my face right now and I don't even know how I got here. Also It makes me cross-eyed to type with this thing between my eyes. I think I am typing on a ID name started by my cousin. I tried to make my own name but couldn't figure it out. So how am I suppose to figure anything CPAP out, right? When I can't make a user ID?
I do know it's on 4.
I do know I have no distilled water so I turned off humidity.
I do know it's a resmed10 airsense apap (or I think I know that?)
I definitely know I am suffocating and wish to F#$% (y'all probably don't cuss here?)
sorry.
I don't cuss either
I wish it would blow more air and be colder air.
4 is like negative 10
help me
I have a dry cleaning bag over my head
I don't think I have apnea.
I think this was a mistake.
Insurance has been AWFUL.
I have no idea what's what.
...but it is motivation to try to straighten it out with this thing on my face.
Then can I take it off?
Step one?
How can I make this blow harder?
Step two? Or Question two?
Why wash mask in baby shampoo?
Can I wash it in peppermint soap?
Question three?
Is my hose super heavy?
There isn't something better and lighter?
I think I have already made a million mistakes.
This mask hurts my face.
It's a small nasal mask.
I have a small nose and very small nostrils.
I have low blood pressure.
No diabetes or no "co-morbid -ites? (or something like that)
Which means I didn't qualify for any help.
I never had a sleep study.
I think this IS my sleep study?
*it's all very surreal
Just "here's a machine ...tell us if you feel better".
It is however, one of the better things that has happened to me in the last few years.
After 47 years of great health ... a switch was turned and now all life is a test.
...but I really want to live.
I'm not against this?
...but at this moment it all seems like it could be a big mistake.
Does this seem normal / right to you?

A pressure of 4 feels suffocating to most people. Fortunately, you have an Autoset that can automatically adjust to an appropriate pressure, but you need a better starting point (minimum pressure). For instructions on how to adjust it, go toColonel-Cactus wrote: How can I make this blow harder?

Re: Noncompliant Failure
Yay ... thank you for the link.
I doubt I'll be able to figure it out.
...but maybe? I will try.
Sorry about sounding like a drunk.
I'm on no drugs / alcohol right now ... just this apap
I am just feeling anonymous and really feel like screaming in to an empty void
It's frustrating not even knowing the questions to ask and worrying that guessing wrong might not be reversible.
Maybe if I can get more air?
I like how it feels when you pull the mask back and it BLOWS at your nose?
well "like" is probably too strong of a word
...but at least then I can feel air and breath a little when I do that
WHOA...
it just now went to 6.6?
WHILE I WAS TYPING.
How does this work?
6.6 feels MUCH better
I wonder how that happened?
Do you think anyone actually monitors these machines?
Is there a recording device that can hear if you snore?
Can it hear you talk?
lol
I promise I am not drinking.
I don't drink but probably should.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
Wow ... that looks easy to adjust.
EXACTLY the information I wanted.
Thank you SO MUCH, Big Dave!
I was too chicken to change anything yet.
(should I make the lame "full of hot air" joke?)
I wonder if "they" can tell I am wearing this while I am awake?
I wonder if it will make me "compliant"?

Re: Noncompliant Failure
You can use tap water in the humidifier, but then you'll need to look at it more closely more often for gunk deposits, can often be a pinkiishy slime in corners, etc... which you can clean with dilute vinegar and a q-tip.
Baby shampoo is less likely to be full of crappy chems and other stuff that can deteriorate the silicone on the mask.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
Thanks Julie~~~
I will get some distilled water tomorrow (I hope)
but good to know one COULD use tap water - or I have bottled spring water
I have been traveling between houses and left the distilled water with my cousin.
I don't know if I even need humidity?
I have been wearing this over an hour now.
It seems easier when I am awake.
I don't suppose that helps anything though?
What about cleaning the mask with Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap?
Should I definitely use baby shampoo?
I thought baby shampoo was super harsh and you could perm your hair with it?
I also see there are two different shaped filter replacement type things.
Hopefully I will figure out what they are before I need to change them.
What about smells you really like?
Do people use aroma therapy and it's intensified if that air is sucked in to the apap?
Thanks
Grace
oops ... sorry didn't see the baby shampoo comment.
I can't even read posts.
I am blaming the mask blocking my view.
:p

Re: Noncompliant Failure
In the "my options" section the first setting is "ramp". Turn ramp off. It's meant to start at a very low pressure and wait until you are asleep to go up to pressure. That's why you feel like you can't breathe. Turn it off.
Tell us the name of the mask (marked on it somewhere) and then we can tell you how to fit it more comfortably.
As for the hose, search for "hose manager" on CPAP.com. That will relieve the weight. Or you can rig up your own.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
wow janknitz ... thank you
I wondered if it knew if I was asleep.
I would think "ramp up" would be totally safe to shut off.
I won't mess with the pressures immediately until I ask someone to change them and if that goes nowhere or they can't give me a good reason why then I will change them myself.
I looked the other night for the name of this mask but couldn't find it.
I will try again.
...and I will look at the hose info.
Thanks.
This is WAY better than screaming into an empty void.
Not that I am HAPPY about it. (This haphazzard "diagnosis" that I doubt)
... but I am shocked to have gotten so many answers all in one night.
Sometimes the internet is really great.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
Don't use peppermint soap... just use something very mild and pure. Please. Turn off (or lower setting) your humidifier for 1-2 nights to see how you feel. I never use mine at all, but many need one depending on local climate, season, etc. Don't add ANYthng, aromatic or otherwise to water... if you want some smell, put a few drops on a cotton ball and put that near the air intake.
If you're in a too-warm place, cool the room itself, though be careful using strong A/Cs because you will then need the humidifier.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
A lot of people come here doubting the diagnosis. It's normal to grieve for a bit. And denial is part of that process. Just keep working on using the machine. Hang in there. You'll get through this.

Re: Noncompliant Failure
Thanks again, Julie.
I will listen to you.
I was really praying someone real would just come tell me what to do.
It is so nice of you guys to help.
I know I am awful.
I have some frustration. lol
I am not good at being needy.
That is a cool idea about drops on a cotton ball near intake.
It appears that I have an Epson F-P nasal mask in small.

You must have been holding your breath while you were typing. The machine detected that your airway was closed or closing up, and then increased the pressure to open it up.Colonel-Cactus wrote: WHOA...

I have an app called Sleep Talk installed on my iPhone. The app is intended for catching people talking while they're sleeping, but it also works for snoring. It turns on when it hears something, and then turns off when it's quiet. It's caught me snoring just a little, but no talking.Colonel-Cactus wrote: Is there a recording device that can hear if you snore?

That is hilarious and crazy.
I know it's probably true too.
This is all very science fiction to me.
