What Kind of Card Reader do I need? Resp BiPap AutoSV

Post by CentrallyTired! » Sun Apr 24, 2016 12:55 am

Hi looking into Sleepyware Software and not for sure if it will work for my machine (does anyone know?) But other question is--
Surely I need to buy a card reader and... Others seem to have these small (SD?) cards; my data card is the size of credit card/looks like a credit card.
Does anyone know what kind of a reader reads such a thing?
Thanks so much!

You have a much older ASV machine built prior to the 50 or 60 series machines that use SD cards.
It is what is called a "Smart Card" and requires a special reader.

They are available and to find one post a request for a "Smart Card" reader to get a link as to where to buy one.

In your prior post, you mentioned wanting to read your own data. Because the information about your machine was ambiguous, I and others mentioned SleepyHead as a way to read the data. I believe that for your model of machine, only Encore software will work.

For SleepyHead experts, post a correction if it can read Smart Card data.

If you can find a used PR 960 ASV machine, it would be a good idea to get one and move your current machine to backup status. The 960 is a better machine and provides all the capability that you are used to. They come up from time to time on this message board and also on other sites such as Craig's list, etc. Avoid the model 950 as they are reported to have difficulties.

Yes. That's the kind I use. They're still available.

Check out this Google search link:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Infinee ... 8&oe=utf-8

Some sources are less expensive than others. They used to be available for $20 - $30 but now they're about $50 or higher.

Then, you need a version of Encore (Encore Pro, Encore Basic or Encore Viewer) to download and convert the data to reports, and depending on which computer operating system you're using, possibly a different driver (see next link).

As others have pointed out, the specialized card reader is still available if you look for it.

But SleepyHead will NOT work with your machine. You will need a copy of Encore in order to look at the detailed data that your machine records on the data card. You can find a link to download the appropriate Encore program for your machine over at apneaboard.com. You will have to register as a user over there since access to the Encore links is restricted to members. Once you are registered over there, if you can't find the post that you need, just ask for help and one of the members will point you in the right direction.

Hi JDS,
Thanks so much you and others are just so willing to help it's awesome!
When you recommend the PR960... do you by chance know if it will do the specific function I so prefer, of just sitting in a (low setting) cpap behavior, UNTIL it detects I'm not breathing?...

Addendum JDS!

I bet it does everything huh? Just looked it up at SecondWind ... It's $1399 used wow! Quite a bit more than mine but yours an updated model --Would it use Sleepyhead?
Also on their site it said DS960 rather than PR960--And instead of ASV, it's Bipap AutoSV--maybe a different machine than what you're referring to, it just occurred to me...

secondwind has the name right, it is the 960 model, and respironics calls it the AutoSV advanced.

the resmed ASV model (which I prefer) is either the S9 Vpap Adapt, or the newer one the Aircurve 10 ASV.
