QuestionRE: AHI and Tonsils

Post by RipSnorter » Sat Apr 16, 2016 8:07 pm

Hi All,

I just had a thought here, as a kid I was always borderline with getting my tonsils and adenoids removed, but I was a part of hte generation where doctors would only go for a tonsilidectomy(?) if there really was little other choice.

I am wondering, would getting tonsils removed as an adult possibly help with OSA? I do know that when I snore my tonsils do seem to be rattling/moving.

Has anyone else been down this road or have any thoughts?

Didn't help me - narrow airways anyway. 3 weeks of hell, which although was worth a shot, has left it's traumatic marj on the family who looked after me! The nhs does not advise tonsillectomy to treat sleep apnoea any more either, because most of the time it doesn't help, or make enough difference to get the person off cpap.

A tonsillectomy as an adult is not a minor thing like with a kid. I looked after my ex when he had it done due to constant strep throat infections. A fun time was NOT had by all. It did stop the infections however so it was successful that way and for him worth the pain and discomfort for 3 weeks.
