New - Introduction

Post by Red70 » Thu Apr 14, 2016 5:05 pm

Hi. I'm brand new here and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Heather. I'm 45. I'm finally going to get my CPAP machine tomorrow morning. It's taken 6 mos. to get through all the appointments to get to this point.

My symptoms are: snoring, falling asleep at work, bad attitude, weight gain, muscles pains all over, heart palpitations, chest pain, can't concentrate, can't remember anything, depression, can't go for my evening walks anymore - just too tired. There are probably more but that's the tip of my iceberg.

My sleep study showed that I have 103 apneas per hour.

When I get my equipment, I'll list it.

If anyone has any words of wisdom or good results for these symptoms, I'd love to hear them!

Thank you.

Hi Heather- my best words of wisdom is "stick around". You can learn a lot here.

My advice is always..."Patience".

It takes time to change sleeping and breathing patterns.

Have patience and ask lots of questions. There are some really smart people here with good advice and knowledge.

Good luck!

Thank you!

Do you know if anyone else has severe muscle pains? They bother me so much!

OK, this is real advice;
Make sure your machine has FULL DATA, not just compliance data.
You want an APAP machine over a CPAP.
The 2 newest models, most recommended are (for obstructive apnea)
Resmed Airsense 10 autoset
Phillips Resperonics Dreamsation Autoset.

I'm not even sure what my insurance will cover. I'll take this with me to show to the girl tomorrow morning and see if I have a choice.

Red70, I was in your shoes almost exactly two years ago--it's awesome, finally getting sleep. Have patience with yourself, the machine and all its strange gear--and perservere. Before CPAP / diagnosis, I had horrible migraines and was exhausted all the time--on Saturdays, it took all my strength to get up by 5pm to get out of the house to experience the world outside. My life pre and post CPAP is black and white, and I am excited for you to feel better....and it's true, you will learn a lot here... welcome

Expect a few months of getting used to your equipment and tweaking your settings to maximize your treatment. Many seem to think all they have to do is plug in the machine and they are going to immediately feel better. It takes work on the user's part to get the most out of the treatment.

Hello and welcome. I think you'll find therapeutic CPAP treatment improves your symptoms. It did mine. As far as muscle pain, I've read that sleep deprivation makes one more sensitive to pain in general. t's reasonable to expect an improvement in pain, but if there other contributors, they'll need to be addressed. I'd like to make a suggestion if it is not too late. Do not accept a machine until you are certain it reports treatment data (not just usage). Once you accept them it is hard to exchange them because for the provider it becomes a used machine. All machines are not created equal. If the company opens before your machine is delivered, call and ask them which machine they dispensed and check back here. Good luck and hopefully you're on your way to feeling better.

+1 from me. It takes a lot of time, patience and not to mention a steep learning curve to get the most out of it!

I got my machine and mask this morning. I got an AirSense 10 Autoset and a Quattro Full Face Mask. That's what my insurance would pay for. Tonight will be my first night trying it. Stay tuned

Excellent!

I got a lot of relief my first night - felt great on Day 1... so there's room for optimism.

1st night - I slept 11.5 hours! My events were 103/hr in my sleep study and last night was 3.3/hr!!! Everything worked great. I didn't take the mask off. I didn't wake up once to go to the bathroom.

Today my chest feels open and full. My sinuses are completely clear for the first time in years.

Overall - 1st day a huge success
