Newbie - Purchase new or used??

I am obviously new here and looking for some advice. I had a sleep study 4 years ago and was told I had severe sleep apnia with AHI of 39. So, I am a little stubborn and decided not to persue CPAP until now. I have a high deductable insurance plan and would have to pay the cost of the titration study and CPAP totally out of pocket. My regular internist agreed to write me a prescrition for a Resmed S9 Autoset machine and by pass the titration. From my reading here, it seemed to be a good machine choice for me. ssuming I can get a well fitting mask, I believe that I can get some excellent advise to get me started.

So, here I am with a prescription in hand, looking for a machine and my question is: Would you recommend a first time user consider purchasing a used machine or should I stick with a new machine. I have seen varying warranty periods on used machines. How important is a warranty? My motivation for a used machine is both the initial cost as well as the possibility that I may not be able to tolerate CPAP. I do plan on giving it a heck of a try. I am really desperate to start getting some restful sleep.

I am in the Houston area and plan on visiting this forum's sponsor for a mask and necessary supplies. So, how likely would you be to recommend a used machine?

Buy a new one with all the bell and whistles so that you have more adjustments if needed and the A10 autoset is a nice piece of equipment.
Buy used if the budget is spread thin.

How important is a warranty?

If an unwarranted machine fails, can you afford to buy another machine for $400-500? If you can't, then buy one with a warranty.

euh, not quite.. considering commonly stated percentages of people with central and complex sleep apnea, it'd be good for around 80% of people, and when you add in folks that need bilevel, that drops a bit further.

still, it's a very good starting bet.
