Cured!

Post by ChicagoGranny » Fri Apr 01, 2016 11:54 am

I have held off announcing this until I was absolutely sure. My normal CPAP pressure was 12.0 - 20.0 cm. After I found the cure, I started taking the pressure down. With each reduction, my AHI remained under 1.0. (My untreated apnea was about 60.)

Eventually I got down to 4.0 cm straight CPAP, and the AHI remained under 1.0. As a final test, I had an in-lab sleep study done without CPAP. The results just now came from the doctor. Cured - AHI for the night was 0.2. There were only two short hypopneas in 7.5 hours.

Here is the cure:

You need three things: a U.S. silver coin (dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted before 1964 are mostly silver) and a peeled, freshly hard-boiled egg. Slip the coin vertically all the way into the egg until its top edge is even with the top of the egg. When you lie down to sleep, take the egg/coin and place it under your chin and at the bottom of your neck just where the collarbone can be felt. I use a kerchief tied around my neck to hold it in place, but you can use anything that is comfortable and holds the egg/coin in place all night.

If you tie the kerchief well, the mess the next morning is not so bad - certainly better than wearing CPAP all night. I keep a container of wet wipes beside the kitchen trash can and I go there first thing in the morning, untie the kerchief, dump the remains of egg in the can and wipe my neck good before going to the sink to wash my neck and face.

Make sure to fish your coin out of the trashcan and always have an egg on hand for the next night.

Try it. You'll like it!

I might give that a try. But will probably wind up with egg on my face.

ChicagoGranny,

You got me on this one.
When I first started reading your post I thought: Wow this is the last person I expected to say this.
Then my thoughts turned to: She's going to leave the forum, I'm going to miss her.

Another good one

That should work also.

Be careful not to anger the missus by spitting seeds in the bed.
