"Political" letter from Apria
"Political" letter from Apria
My husband and I each got a letter from Apria explaining that "On January 1, 2016, Medicare initiated a drastic reduction in reimbursement for home oxygen therapy and other home medical equipment. Another significant cut is scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2016, reducing reimbursement rates by nearly 50% for some items."
They go on to list lots of services that will be affected and urge contacting senators and congressional representatives. Suggest visiting the Council for Quality Respiratory Care (CQRC) website for info.
Anyone gotten a similar letter or have comments?

What, do you mean the Medical Establishment, that lobbied for Obama Care, isn't happy with their step child either. Lay down with the dog, expect some fleas. Jim

Expect nothing but dishonesty from Apria.
Some have had better experiences, most not so much.
Ignore their junk mail. They just want a license to steal.
My local DME has no such agenda; and their operation is stellar.

For over 10 years I've been getting my XPAP supplies from Lincare, not the greatest service but liviable. In the last two months, I've been contacted saying they need to check if I am using my machine, had to come to the house take my card read it and mail it back, first contact in 10 years.
They called last month to take my supply order, I OKAYED it. Never came 1 month later, today I had to call local and the call the location they outsource from, took 30 minutes on hold in the U.S.A. to see what happen to my order, they said they need Auth to ship. I ask them how they managed for 10 years to run a bussiness. Thanks for your support for Obamacare, what a improvement, if you never have or never will work. Jim

If you are like many on this Board who are unhappy with Apria, you could follow their lead by writing to the offices outlined in Apria's letter, but instead of complaining about cuts, tell them that Apria is making too much money! You might chose to provide them with your favorite Crapria anecdote, too!lindalrc wrote:My husband and I each got a letter from Apria explaining that "On January 1, 2016, Medicare initiated a drastic reduction in reimbursement for home oxygen therapy and other home medical equipment. I voted with my pocketbook.
It was easier to move my business than shout at a deaf wall.
My words have less power than my money.
For those who have no choice, write your letters, but cc to anyone who matters,
the media, your state medical regulators, your doctor, etc. let Apria know who else has received copies.

With any luck, it'll be morphed into something else that will work or be repealed.

Re: "Political" letter from Apria
My mom and I both use cpap. She is on medicare and can't get any new items via medicare without a doctor visit even though therapy is fine, and a doctor visit means another copay.
My deductible went up, and my $500 HRA account (per year) was deleted from my coverage. So, I have to pay 100% until I get past the $750 deductible. I did not finish the deductible last year. Of course, I only went to the doctor once since I was paying out of pocket and a standard visit is over $200. It has now been so long that I have gone (and without prescriptions), so I would have to do a new patient visit which is over $300 (it's over an hour long, and usually has 2 or 3 monthly followups as she makes sure the medication is going well). I can't afford to do it, so I go without. I got sick once and went to an urgent care. Almost $200, but I had an ear infection.
These past two years have been the worst for me, health wise. For many years, I got $500 in my HRA account each year which I could use before having to start my deductible. Now I skip my medications and buy my cpap supplies on craigslist and ebay (as well as supplies for my mom).
It doesn't make sense to pay premiums for insurance that you can't use, but I am stuck with it. I wish we could helped people who needed it without destroying it for people who had decent plans.

Re: "Political" letter from Apria
I find it weird that Apria, a DME provider renowned for it's complete lack of care for their patients, is now asking their patient's to call the "center for quality respiratory care". It seems that Apria should be reported to them, not lobbied.

Re: "Political" letter from Apria
Oh boy...what am I missing here? I'm new to this and so far have only had one encounter with Apria...to get my machine and accessories. Overall it went fine. Sounds like I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall now. Great...something else to manage.

If you gave them access to your CC, you will learn. JimMoondance wrote:Oh boy...what am I missing here?
