Frustrated!!!

Post by epirn » Tue Feb 23, 2016 5:15 pm

Been using my APAP for almost 4 months now. I was doing good until recently. I am now getting major mask leaks with either my Amara View or my AirFit 10. I use a mask liner by PadACheek on both masks. At first there was no problem with the liner now I am wondering if the liner is causing the increase in leaks. For the last 2-3 days I have also been fighting a cold with nasal congestion, runny nose, and sore throat. I have increased my humidity. I am waking up frequently and wanting to rip my mask off but I keep it on for at least 4-5 hours (got to satisfy the insurance!!) but after that I cannot stand it and off it comes. I was using Breathe Right strips but the skin on my nose broke down. Now I am using Sleep Right Nasal Breathe Aids which help a little but irritate my nares with my Amara View FFM. I am frustrated and want to quit!! Should I stop using my APAP until my cold is better? Not sure what to do about the leaks as I have tried adjusting straps and repositioning my pillow.

are the mask liners clean? is your face clean?

do keep using the machine, it should help you breath better, though you may need to adjust the humidity to find the sweet spot while you've got the cold. for me, more humidity is the thing when I've got a cold, but other people prefer other settings.

Have you tried replacing the mask cushion? Some of us have has success boiling the cushions to bring them back to "like new" condition.

(do search the forum/google for suggestions about the best recipes) usually boiling/simmering in water with baking soda.

I use the ResMed F10 FFM but not the Amara View. I use the RemZzzs padded full face liners. They work very well and are very comfortable. They cost $24.95 per 30 day supply and I use a new one daily. Leaks are very low with the F10. If you stretch them properly they seal well. I beleave they are available for the View also. Recommend giving them a try - the pad a face "reuseable" did not work for me. Hang in there and keep the mask on to train your mind to accept it.

If you want to give RemZzz a try they give free samples. PM Becky at RemZzz. Here is a link where she posted that. viewtopic/p1057667/Especially-for-newly ... l#p1057667
PadaCheek worked well with my husband's F10 and it lasts longer. http://padacheek.com/
You can also cut your onw out of old tee shirt material.
With liners as many other things, it is trial and error to see what works for you.

Thank you for your suggestions. I do clean my mask, liner, and face regularly. I also have replaced my cushion but still have the leaks. I'll keep trying as I have been doing but this is really frustrating and discouraging as I thought it would be a piece of cake and I would feel much better. Not the results I expected. But I will persevere!!

is your face the right size for your mask? was it measured? you might need to get another one.

search the net for a sizing template and download it, then measure. you might have the wrong sized face.

I have made my own mask liners for both the F&P Simplus and my Amara View. I made them out of an old tee shirt. I use a clean one every night s they stretch when you use them. I place them in a small mesh bag and throw them in with the whites when doing laundry. I iron them flat after they come out of the dryer.
