Benefits of a heated hose?

Post by Cavalier » Mon Feb 22, 2016 7:22 am

Since it looks like I may just have to spring for a new machine privately, I guess I can get what I want. I will probably purchase the Airsense 10 for Her as I like the Airsense 10 I have right now a lot and I am a "her" and since you can get the additional algorithm for the same price...why not? It has an option for a heated hose. The one I have right now does not have a heated hose. Is it worth the extra $ ? I live in Southern California where the weather is almost always close to perfect. What would be the benefits of a heated hose?
Given enough sleep....I could rule the world.

The benefit is the air will stay warmer longer as it travels to your face from the humidifier, and you can increase humidity more without experiencing "rain out," or water droplets forming in the hose and splashing you in the nose. I live in NY where we have freezing winters, so I like having it. I'm not sure if it's needed in California. I've never had the pleasure of living there. The good news is, it's no problem to add it later. You can easily buy it by itself for pretty much the same cost, and cpap.com has regular free shipping events. You could probably find one even cheaper on ebay.

I've been on cpap since 1997. Bought a FP Icon with heated hose last month. $400 at CPAP.COM -- I've never slept better. Should have gone with this setup years ago. No rain out or condensation in the nasal pillows. Go for it.

With a heated hose you have more control over the humidity and tube temperature. It will default set to auto when you attach the Climateline hose but you can change it to manual and have separate controls. Here is a link to your Clinical manual if you don't already have it, and it will tell you about those settings. https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

I love cranking up the humidity if I have a cold. It feels so good. When I have a cold, my symptoms are better with APAP than without. Otherwise, I probably don't use the humidifier enough to cause rainout. But with that being said, rainout is annoying and impossible to sleep through. I would buy it if I could. If not, pay the extra latter down the road when you go to replace the hose.

Keep fighting and get a machine through your insurance, you will then have a back-up machine. Not a bad thing.

Best Wishes!
