Pediatric masks

Post by bellab » Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:24 am

Hi,

I finally got my airsense 10 with dream wear mask today (yay) so I'll be using that for the first time tonight- but I also learned that a close family friend's daughter has just been diagnosed with sleep apnea. She's only 5, and she was born very very premature (24 weeks!) so I don't know if her birth may be linked to her apnea now- but she has an incredibly tiny airway. You can't see her throat at all when she opens her mouth - her doctors have said she's basically breathing through a straw and they want to remove her tonsils but the surgery isn't until May. I told her mom to ask her doctors about the likelihood of the surgery actually curing her sleep apnea as well as if a CPAP machine could be prescribed to hold her over until May. They sent her for a sleep study because she sleeps 12+ hours but is always tired, always wanting to nap, etc. Even when she's awake she breathes very hard and it sounds like she's snoring at times (while fully awake!) and when she does sleep, she snores like a trucker and tosses and turns a lot.

Not sure if insurance would pay for a CPAP considering she has an upcoming surgery- I am happy to give her my S9 auto but she would still need a mask. Any good deals on inexpensive pediatric masks out there?

I know it comes up on the forum occasionally, so I did a forum search and here's the link for "pediatric".
Hopefully there's something in there that's of help.

Another option would be to contact a DME, hospital or the manufacturers to see what sources may be available.
