A Modest Proposal
A Modest Proposal
Rules for more comity:
1 - Before you post, consider how you would feel if it were directed to you. If you wouldn't like it, don't post it.
2 - If you receive a post that you find snarky or unpleasant, don't reply to it ever. Either your skin is too thin or the poster is off base. In either case, replying in a like tone won't help anything and may just provoke additional snarky comments.
3 - If you are the recipient of many snarky comments ( the definition of many is a personal one each of us makes, in my case it is two or three ), then strongly consider the use of the FOE classification for the perceived offender. That provides a filter so that you no longer need to see posts from that individual.
4 - If the offender in 3 above is a really repetitive offender, then when you see their post on a thread you would normally comment on, don't post to that thread at all. If you have information that you think would be helpful to the OP in that case, send them a PM and continue the conversation offline.
If a poster is offensive enough to enough folks, rules 3 and 4 are a form of shunning and after a while, they will either leave and go harass folks elsewhere, or get the message and reform and become, if not more pleasant, at least civil in their postings. In either case, this forum will return to be a source of help to apnea patients as it was intended. Even if no one else agrees with you, you will no longer be offended because you won't receive their commentary anymore and have some part of your day disturbed.
5 - If you see an answer to a post with which you agree and you want to make that clear, then a simple +1 post is all that is required. No need to repeat the information - that doesn't add to the information flow.
6 - If you see an answer to a post that you believe is incorrect in some manner, then just make a post containing the correct information. There is no need to point out the flaws the other person made. The OP and others should be presumed to be intelligent enough to sort out the answers and figure out what will help them. If your post contained the error (and you agree), then you take responsibility for making the correction by editing it so the error won't remain to confuse anybody. We all make mistakes from time to time and there is no need to make a federal case out of each and every one of them.
7 - If someone has taken the time and energy to try to provide you with information they think might be helpful, a simple thank you would be nice. It takes time to read the requests for help and/or advice and encouragement to those who take the time will surely be appreciated.

I love it! Now how do we get all posters on board with this? Because it's PERFECT and makes sense.

Just plug away and mention it from time to time.
Letting someone make snarky comments and reading them is like letting a nasty tenant live in your brain rent free.

It's a good high road approach and mostly that's what I attempt to do in life... sadly some folks just never look up enough to spot the high road.JDS74 wrote:Just plug away and mention it from time to time.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: A Modest Proposal
Another +1.
Unfortunately, others have posted what you have posted, JDS, and it works for about a week. The internet gives people the opportunity to say things they would never say in RL, at least I don't think so. People who have a need to show off their superior knowledge of a particularly subject won't read your post and see it for what it is because they won't see themselves in your post. And the people who find it difficult to ignore their bully-like tendencies will react. It comes down to who we really are out there in the real world.
I do appreciate the tone of your post and thank you.
