Medistrom Pilot-12 battery backup

Post by Bookbear » Sat Dec 26, 2015 11:40 pm

Has anyone had experience with this product? It's fairly new on the market, from Canada, and also has a model for ResMed machines, the Pilot-24.

Happy New Year!

I bought the Medistrom Pilot-24 battery backup for my ResMed S9 autoset. It's 24 volts versus the one that you list which is 12 volts. It works very well as a "Universal Power Supply." That is, you can unplug your machine from utility power and it continues to run without interruption. I have not tested it yet to see how many hours I can get but the advertisements indicated that one could get a full night of sleep if the humidifier was not used. My main reasons for the purchase is for doing long distance air travel and to deal with short duration outages due to winter storms.

I noted in the Medistrom write-up that it said 'not suitable for PAP ventilator type devices'.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Not sure what they are meaning with "home pap ventilator". Their website specifically lists a variety of cpap machines as compatible with either the Pilot 12 or the Pilot 24 (the essential difference between the two models being the voltage, and possibility the polarity of the included plug).

it means "if you plug your ventilator that keeps you alive into this, and it runs out of battery, and you die, don't sue us because we told you not to do it".
