Nasal CPAP mask recommendations please

Post by Glenne » Thu Dec 10, 2015 6:35 pm

Hi, I am a CPAP user of about 12 months; the basic details are:
I have used a full face mask but want to change to a nasal mask (which I have trialed in the past)
I don't want nasal pillows due to discomfort
I have a constant pressure machine, on high pressures (18-20)
I am a female with a small nose, small face
I have a Resmed S9 machine but don't care what brand the mask is as long as it fits with this machine
I would be curious to try a mask that has the breathing tube connect on top of the head say, but this isn't a priority over a good fitting mask
I side sleeper, often end up with a very tight mask to avoid leaks
I would love a fairly quiet mask, or my hubby would anyway!

Can anyone tell me what they may have found useful and effective in the past? Obviously low cost is good but these masks are so well priced compared to whats available in Australia that performance becomes the most important thing.
Thanks so much, I appreciate your help

The hose connecting on the top of the head is going to seriously limit the choices.
You might look at this one. It was just officially released in Oct of this year.
If you call for pricing it is $89 and comes with free return insurance so you have 30 days to get it back to cpap.com and get your money back if you hate it.

Listen to Pugsy. She has lots of good advice. I too had trouble finding a mask that worked for my side/stomach sleeping. I went through 5 different masks in the first 2 months of therapy. I recently got a Dreamwear nasal mask. I fits nicely under the nose, and not inside the nose like nasal pillows. I have not had any trouble with leaking in this my first week of using it. The headgear is minimal, does not totally mess my hair and most importantly does not leave marks on my face. My leak % and AHI have actually decreased since using it. It has the top of the head attachment you're looking for too. I use mine with a hose suspension system that works very well. I can turn over in bad without pulling the tubing and machine. This mask is a little more noisy than the pillows, but still not too bad. Function makes it worth the while for me. Don't hesitate to give it a try. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Good luck with your search.

I absolutely loved this mask until I had to switch to a full face type. (due to mouth breathing) It offers custom, boil and fit tailoring that can be very comfortable. It's pretty cheap also. Good luck.

I would read this thread which is about the mask Pugsy provided a link to.
