Would you read my graphs?

Post by whome » Mon Nov 09, 2015 12:13 pm

Hello & Happy Monday!

I came here about 18 months ago, and all you lovely people helped me with getting set up. Now I'm back! I realized last week that I'm back to where I started. Even though I wear my mask religiously, I still wake up about every hour. I end up napping and least once and sometimes twice during the day. I realize there could be lots of other reasons for that, but I want to make sure I have the mask thing right first.

I have a Resmed S9 with a humidifier on max. (I live in San Antonio - I don't know if it's dry hear or not, but any less and my nose gets all bunged up.
I have a Mirage Quatro mask. I couldn't tolerate anything less than full face when we tested it - I feel like I'm drowning.

So far:

I have ordered a CPAP pillow as I'm a side sleeper (I had one initially, but it didn't work. I ordered a different one to try again).
I ordered a chinstrap, because I wake up coughing a lot, and I think I might be getting the pressurised air through my mouth.

Next:

I have looked through my graphs and some nights it's clear that there is a leakage spike when I wake up. Other nights, like the one below, I can see the AHI rises, but it's still below 5 and there seems to be no reason why I wake up. Is there anything you can see that I'm missing, or anything else I ought to try before I book in for another sleep test?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I'm certainly not an expert at analyzing graphs, but since everything looks so good, you might try slightly reducing your pressure. It's possible that you really don't need 16 and reducing the pressure may help your sleep without affecting AHI very much. I occasionally get the leak spikes also. I use Quattro and several times during the night I adjust the mask and cause a spike. As far as humidity is concerned...with all the rain you have had this past month you may not need your humidity at max. Try reducing the humidity. Too much can cause congestion.

Thank you so much for taking a look. I'm glad there isn't something big I'm missing. I left the air conditioning on last night accidentally, and I noticed that a lot more water was used. I got the chin strap today, and I'll try that tonight and see if it's better. Just a series of experiments...

Thank you!

The air conditioning dries out the room...it removes humidity...that's why you used more water.
